Mangalore: Knowledge Comes from Experience - Dr Jayant Kaikini at Poets' Meet

Mangalore, Nov 23: On the third day of the ongoing Konkani Cultural Fest 'Aami Konkani' here on Saturday November 24, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy organized a poets' meet on Linguistic Integration.

Dr Jayant Kaikini, renowned poet and writer after inaugurating the programme said, "India is not a hut built with a single pole but it is a great hall constructed with numerous pillars and a strong roof. These sort of poets' meets are a sign of progress in the society. The unification of languages is only possible through such meets."

He further added, "The word literature has different meanings in the dictionary but true literature is an experience of the writer. A poet writes a poem in his vision and dimension but the same thing can be viewed from different perspectives. A poet should consider himself as a link to society, he should be a good observer and wait for an exotic experience to frame a good poem. Knowledge comes not from reading books but through experience."

"Parents today provide their children with education with an intent that they can secure themselves financially, but in the process of making money they do not realise that the child's talents are being supressed. The coastal regions are full of talents," he said.

Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of DK district Kannada Sahitya Parishad said, "We are the people of South Canara. We have great role models like Kayyara Kinyanna Rai. Primary education has failed to educate student accurately as the language and grammar is not put to proper use. Although the language used by the Vedants and Yakshagana artistes were not modernized as now, they spoke better and were more learned".

Different poets also recited their compositions on this occasion.

Kasargod Chinna, president of KKSA; Vaman Nandhavar, Manohara Prasad, Devdas Pai registrar of KKSA were present on the dais.
