Magnalore, Nov 26: The grand finale of Wilfy Rebimbus Memorial Inter-parish Singing Competition was held at Jeppu Church grounds here on Sunday November 25, with 45 finalists rendering exceptional performances in a bid to win the coveted title.

Prior to the competition, a floral tribute was paid to legendary singer the late Wilfy Rebimbus in whose memory the competition was held.

Fr Nelson D'Almeida, parish priest of Jeppu Church welcomed the gathering and quoted a few motivational lines from one of Wilfy's song, in which he said those who go ahead win and that one should work hard to reach one's goal. "These words of hope underline the spirit of this grand finale," Fr Nelson added.

Meena Rebimbus, wife of the late Wilfy Rebimbus and an eminent singer herself, was honoured with a bouquet on the occasion. Henry Diana D'Souza who sponsored the prizes was also honoured.

Vishwas Rebimbus regaled the audience with soulful melodies while

Jeppu parishioners too entertained the audience with several songs and dance performances at different stages of the competition.

The funds raised from the event will be utilized to meet the medical and educational needs of the less fortunate parishioners.

The results were announced at the end of the competition and prizes were given away to the winners.

The finale was judged by an eminent panel comprising Francis Richard D’Souza, Fr Denis D’Sa, and Dr Prashanth Raj. Speaking on behalf of the jury, Fr Denis D'Sa, administrator of Father Muller Charitable Institutions said that apart from being a fund-raiser event, the competition has also promoted language and music.

"It is a platform for young and budding talents. As far as judging is concerned, it is very difficult to eliminate any contestant. If given a chance we would not eliminate anyone, as all sang well. All are winners. Our judging today was based on today's performance alone and not of previous ones. Rhythm and scale and important in singing, but what is most essential is energy and expression. Energy is necessary to take the listeners in the flow of the song. Breath control is another important aspect."

Giving examples of accomplished singers and musicians who had struggled to reach their goals, he said, "Every musician/singer should work very hard to achieve success. Do not give up."

Cyril Gregory Sequeria (CGS) Taccode, the compere for the evening kept the audience engaged and entertained in his inimitable style throughtout.

Fr Nelson D’Almeida honoured sponsors and media partners Daijiworld.com and Namma TV.

Daijiworld Weekly editor Hemacharya, Jeppu seminary rector Joseph Martis, and poet and Daiworld director (operations) Melvyn Rodrigues were present.
