'Yaya Ind-Ya Mayaya' All-India Konkani Dance Contest Enters Kasargod

Kasargod, Nov 26: The Kasaragod launching ceremony of ‘Yaya Ind-Ya Mayaya’, the first all-India Konkani dance contest was successfully held on Sunday November 25 at the Kumbla Church Grounds.

Roshan Ferrao, a body-builder of international repute and winner of Ekalavya Award of the government of Karnataka, was the chief guest. Fr Vincent D’souza, the vicar vara of the Kasaragod varado and Fr Marcel Saldanha, the parish priest of Kumbla Church were the guests of honour.

Roshan Ferrao, launched the event by untying the ribbon and releasing the confetti to reveal the contest emblem. He spoke a few words wishing ‘Yaya Ind-Ya…’ well. Fr Vincent D’souza applauded Mandd Sobhann for its dedicated work in promoting Konkani language and culture, and expressed the hope that ‘Yaya Ind-Ya Mayaya’ would another feather in the Mandd Sobhann cap. Fr Marcel Saldanha congratulated all the 4 organisations organizing ‘Yaya Ind-Ya…’ and said that the Kasaragod Auditions, scheduled for January 26, 2013, at the City Hall, Kumbla, will have many Groups and Duets participating.

 Eric Ozario briefed the gathering regarding the Rules and the Conduct of ‘Yaya Ind-Ya Mayaya’, and appealed to the youth of Kasaragod District to respond positively to this great opportunity provided to them.

Roshan Ferrao, the internationally acclaimed body-builder from Ranipura, presented an impressive bodybuilding show. The Nach Sobhann team danced to the theme song composed by Band Elysium and 3 other numbers, choreographed by their team leader, Baab Avil D’cruz.

Lawrence D’souza, joint secretary of Mandd Sobhann, Naveen Lobo, the vice-president, Victor Mathias, executive secretary of Konkani Prachar Sanchalan, Avil D’cruz, leader, Nach Sobhann and other executive committee members of Mandd Sobhann were also present on the occasion. Eric Baab Ozario, secretary general, represented Jagotik Konknni Songhotton.

The significant programme, which commenced at 5.30 p.m., lasted 1½ hours. It was a befitting tribute to the newly renovated stage and was witnessed by around 300 people, specially youth, who had gathered from around the Kasaragod District.

The next launching ceremony will be in Goa at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, on December 16, at 4 pm, followed by the Mumbai launching ceremony on December 23, at Xavier Institute of Engineering, Mahim, at 4 pm. The last in the chain of launching ceremonies will be in Honnavar, on December 30, at the Municipality Town Hall, at 4 pm.

The momentum is slowly building for a very successful all-India contest.
