Mangalore, Nov 26:
It was an evening of enchanting music with golden melodies of yesteryears reverberating in the air and transporting the listeners to a surreal world.

The occasion was the musical evening 'Gaata Rahe Mera Dil' organized by Rotary Club of Mangalore Sunrise in association with Rohan Corporation at Town Hall here on Monday November 26.

The concert featuring well-known singers like Anitha, Srikanth Kamath, Mohammed Hanif and Ranjan Das spellbound the jam-packed audience.

The event was organized as a fund-raiser to create awareness on cancer and its early detection.

Dr Ravichandra, Raghunath Shet, Basti Vaman Shenoy, Eric Ozario among others were present during the inaugural ceremony. Rotarian Dr Shivashankar, Rotary International district 3180 governor Dr B Devdas Rai, Sadashiva Shetty, and Daijiworld Weekly editor and programme director Hemacharya were also part of the formal programme.

Dr Shivashankar said that this concert had been organized for a cause funds generated  would be used for early detection of cancer and its awareness. "In the coming days camps will be held and a cancer helpline will be opened to provide information on cancer round the clock," he said.

Dr Devdas Rai said that the program is a novel one and community service is the motto behind it.

The musical evening was indeed a treat to the senses. The magic of yesteryears was recreated with numbers like 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram', 'Teri pyari pyari surat ko', 'Gaata rahe mera dil', 'Waada karle saajna' and many more immortal songs.

Prem Kumar compered the programme in his usual style, keeping the audience attention alive throughout. Pappan from Calicut along with his troupe arranged the music.

Cancer was once considered a deadly disease and was termed as one. It was even said that this was a disease of Saints. However with modern science and modern systems of surgeries like laser surgery Cancer is curable and not considered a deadly disease any more.

TO HAVE A POSTIVE ATTITUDE AND FIGHT THE DISEASE is an attitude of mind

In Solon, Ohio, United States, ever year there is an event organized every year for the purpose of fighting CANCER which is attended by thousands of people. Here cancer awareness is highlighted and hundreds of cancer survivors give their testimonies to educate all people that CANCER IS CURABLE.

At the meeting every cancer survivor is presented with a medal and a ribbon which they all wear as they parade round the sports grounds inspiring several thousand spectators THAT CANCER IS CURABLE and not a dreaded disease any more.

It would be a good idea for the Rotary Club of Mangalore - SUNRISE to introduce a similar pattern at their next event. In fact it would even be a good idea to repeat any kind of musical or any other event every year to inculcate the true concepts of SURVIVAL FROM CANCER in an attempt to eradicate the wrong notion from peoples' minds that CANCER IS INCURABLE.

A word of appreciation- As usual Eula was at her best as an M.C. Prem Kumar compared the entire show with perfection and indeed Anita,Srkanth Kamath, Mohamed Hanif and Raman Das were at their best

If the organizers wish to have further inputs regarding the meetings that take place in U.S.A. it would be my pleasure to discuss the details with them.

The success of the evening is specially due to the trouble taken by organizers like Hemacharya (Stephen), Joe D'Silva and others who had taken a lot of trouble to personally contact people and seek their support
