November 30 - The Great Day of Mumbai Weddings!

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Nov 29: We have seen a number of 'great Indian weddings', but Friday November 30 is one day that may be termed the 'great day of Indian weddings'.

For, in Mumbai alone, the day will witness a whopping 30,000 weddings!

The bustling city will be host to a rush of weddings, basically because, as per the city astrologers, there are no muhurats from February to April end in 2013. Hence, people who had planned to get married early next year have advanced their weddings to muhurats in November.

This means business has skyrocketed for wedding planners in the city. And being Mumbai, most of the weddings are high-profile and lavish. Planners are rushing around with last minute preparations, giving final touches to giant mantaps, getting the right combination of flowers and arranging an army of bodyguards and cars for the high-profile grooms.

The wedding season has also meant a boom in business for designers, caterers, decorators and all others who work together to put up a perfect show. Flowers are in great demand, and so are car/bus rentals and musical bands.

Families are in a festive mood preparing to take or receive 'baaraats' complete with band and baja. No stone is being left unturned to make the wedding day a most memorable one. Some of the more affluent families have hired expensive set of wheels like the Mercedes for the baraat, while some others have roped in artistes, dancers, musical bands, chariots and what not.

Given the rush, what has raised concerns of several Mumbaikars is the possible traffic jam with so many wedding groups and troupes crowding the streets. While some of them have cautioned the city on social networking sites to get ready for a traffic snarl, some others have taken the occasion as a festive one that will see the entire Mumbai decorated and in high spirits.

Ultimately, Friday November 30 would be one memorable day for at least those 60,000 people tying the knot!

I fail to understand how atrology is science. I know astronomy is science. Astrology is simply a way of prediction based on the position of stars and planets as seen through the eyes, without even differentiating between stars and planets and setalites. Linking this with ones time of birth and matching this with someone else and predicting the future of that person. If one believes and something happens to be correct then he will believe in it for ever and forces others to also believe. If one doesnot believe nothing will happen.

    Prasad, Udupi

Astrology is a trusted science and is being practiced for over 4000 years it is not linked with one religion. As it is a trusted science so it has been broadly practiced and followed by the world, following are the few astrologers outside India who are very popular:
 Jonathan Cainer of Jonathan Cainer's Zodiac Forecasts
 Rob Brezny of Free Will Astrology
     Susyn Blair-Hunt of Kajama
     Liz Greene at Astrodienst
     Terry Nazon
 Susan Miller of astrology zone

I guess you are like a frog in the well, likely you might have seen only Indian astrologers so you feel astrology is only in India. You also feel it is linked with Hinduism. Grow up buddy, it is a science, any religion, cast people are allowed to study astrology, it’s available for study and practice in every corner of the world.

When you say “You should be thankful that this country has given you full freedom to practice your faith without any hindrance”, what are you actually trying to say?

India is a democracy you have a right to vote any one in your constitution, isn’t it? (It doesn’t say you “Vote only a Hindu") You are a citizen of India same like Ms. Lydia, what makes you superior citizen to talk on behalf of your country to another citizen of the same country in this manner (respective of the religion)?

There is no matching or gotra importance against humanity. Its in the mind of the reader. If you take me as an anti-Hindu, you will find every word of me in that manner. I request you, please don't read anything coming under my name until you clear your opinion about me.

    Prasad,

Is my faith practicing a favour from you or its my constitutional right ? At the same time, its not in India alone that Hindus exist - Hindus are world-over and well practice their faith.

Go and correct the sociological teachings of Government of India if you disagree with what I say. Its not me alone - millions of students study sociology - I have not said anything here from my own creation !

    Lydia,

Astrology and Horoscope matching is unique to Indian culture and is followed by only certain sections of hindu religions. No body has been forced to follow astrology and Hinduism unlike other religion does not force its followers to follow any beliefs or rituals or attending gods place. Everything is voluntary here. You should be thankful that this country has given you full freedom to practice your faith without any hindrance. Keeps your advice and comments within you.

    Rakesh Shetty,

Astronomy and astrology are two branches of science - it got nothing to do with religion. If it was so, people who register their marriages would have fallen apart !

Astrology is a dominance by certain class of society to mislead the people in order to earn their living. If not, why a shoodra was not allowed to study stars/moon/sun ?

We study in sociology that because astrology was given so much importance by certain dynasties, our research on astronomy took a back stage. If it wasn't so, we did not have to depend on West for technology.

Please keep your culture sermon to yourself !
