Mangalore, Nov 29: J F D’Souza's book of short stories for children, 'Bangarache Mazar' ('Golden Cat') was released at the Press Club here on Thursday, November 29 at 11 am.

Briefing on the book, Konkani writer Dolphy Lobo said that this is J F D’Souza’s 7th Golden series of short stories for children, others bring 'Bangarachi Masli', 'Bangarachi Chitaal', 'Bangarachi Kurad', 'Bangarachi Imaj', 'Bangarachi Hass' and 'Bangarachi Moore'.

His first book, 'Bangarchi Masli' bagged the Karnataka Konkani Literature Award in the year 2004. Konkani Friends, United Kingdom bestowed him with the title 'Konkani Star' in the year 2007 for his achievements in the field of Konkani language.

He has also been writing in other languages like Kannada, English and Tulu.

Speaking after releasing the book, IFKCA Mangalore unit president Roy Castelino said that J F D’Souza has been rendering commendable service to the field of Konkani language and literature. "It is a laudable work to write books for children. This indeed helps the children to be familiar with the Konkani language," he added.

"Books help in the intellectual development of the children and enhance their knowledge. Nowadays, children are lured towards internet and television, but there are lots of unwanted things in such media that makes them take a negative path. Such books will encourage them to inculcate the habit of reading and lead them in the right and positive path," he added.

J M F D’Souza said that he was inspired to write by Dolphy. "He was the one who encouraged me to write and in fact, publish the book," he said.

He also congratulated all those who helped him in the publication of all his books.

Marcel D’Souza and Tressy Pinto were also present on the occasion.
