Mangalore, Nov 30: A case of fraud wherein 27 people from Kerala were duped was brought to light by the victims themselves at a press meet here on Friday November 30.

Sudhakaran N S, one of the victims of the fraud, said that Shafi, director of Alfa Tours and Travels, Deralakatte had cheated him and others with a promise of giving them visa to work  abroad as staff nurses.

Shafi demanded Rs 1,80,000 for visa from each person, collecting Rs 45,000 as advance and another Rs 10,500 for certificate attestation. All the 27 paid him the said amount as advance payment and received an agreement copy for the same.

The persons came in touch with Shafi through a newspaper advertisement. Believing his work to be genuine, all the 27, who were already employed as nurses in different places, paid him the amount, in December 2011.

When they raised concerns about delay in the process, he directed them to submit their original documents like SSLC marks card, plus-2 marks card, and nursing diploma certificate, and accordingly, all of them did so in March 2012.

Shaffi then asked them for a fornight's time to carry out further procedures. When contacted on phone 15 days after the submission of original documents, he replied that their work would get done within two days.

However, he then started avoiding them, disconnecting their calls and reportedly behaved rudely. It was then that they realized they had been duped.

Shafi also allegedly claimed to have close contacts with higher police officials and high political influence, because of which he said he could not be touched. "Shafi also openly claimed that he had good contacts with ACP Jagannath," Sudhakaran said.

He further said that when the 27 persons approached the local police station, though their complaint was received, they were asked to produce original notary and agreement copies.

It is said that apart from these 27 persons, Shafi has looted hundreds of other gullible people in a similar way.

Adarsh A V, Veril V Kumar, Nishad and Sony Thomas were also present at the meet.

Dear All, please donot pay your hardly earned money to the robbers. Instead keep it in bank and you will get interest. There are some websites where big co's recruit people directly. There is no money or bribe involved. If company is interested they will give visa, ticket accomodation etc. You can put your CV thru www.naukrigulf.com or www.monstergulf.com

Guys be safe. Donot give your hardly earned money to anyone.

Why well qualified people of some of our states are still craving to go to Gulf even when they are able to earn more in their own state/country than of Gulf States ? Electricians, Plumbers, Masons hardly earn 10-12 thousand rupees in Gulf after slogging for almost 10 hours a day fighting harsh weather conditions. Labourers are found in GCC countries for a meagre salary of 8 thousand per month ? Thank God, I have never found a Mangalorean labourer in GCC. Educate the people & stop them from falling victims to cheats with a craze to go to 'Thubai'. When illiterate people notice their 'ungle' and 'aundies' arriving with LCD TVs, they thing GCC is paradise.

Bad luck for 27 people, these types of frauds taken place in the past also nothing happens to the cheaters or to Shafi (he may be a professional cheater). They will do this with the help of Politicians, police, Lawyers and give them their share. If you are going to file case on him, then you will never reach aboard till the case ends which may take years that Shafi also know. God only has to save.

    Mr. Noor,Dubai

After bringing the Nurse or DOctor or Lab technicians (MLT) the related hospital or clinic will arrange them for DOH (department of health ) certification test and they will guide them how to approach the same.
DOH certificate is enough to work any hospitals in UAE except in Ministry run GOVT hospitals. MOH is required only Central govt run hospitals.

There are cases where visiting specialist doctors who are specialised in rare qualification like open Heart Surgery etc will not require MOH or DOH they are travelling as visiter all over the world just to serve the people in need and which doctors are not available there.

ALFA tours seems to be 'alpa'!!! I am wondering how Kerala Candidates rushing to Mangalore for overseas jobs in such numbers !!!For mark card attestation Rs 10,500/=?????If there are agreement/money receipts, I think police of DK will solve this problem as they did earlier also. For overseas job aspirants, kindly look registrations with MOL/license and some homework before proceed.
