Mangalore: Rural Grandeur Comes Alive with Kadri Devara Kambala

Mangalore, Dec 2: The historically famous Kambala of the city, the Kadri Devara Kambala was inaugurated with grandeur by Sadanand Shetty, chairman of Sri Devi Education Trust and other dignitaries on Sunday December 2.

Addressing the gathering, Sadanada Shetty said, “Kambala signifies peace, love, satisfaction, harmony and brotherhood. Such sports truly develop our mind and body.”

“Let all the participants gathered here indulge the true winning spirits among themselves and take part enthusiastically in the events”, he added.

 

Speaking on the occasion, chief guest P Jayaram Bhat, president of Karnataka Bank said that Kadri Kamabla which gives the flavor of rural field games to the people of the city along with Kambala is laudable.

“Through this event, the organizers are spreading the fragrance of our culture throughout the world. Such events should be organized everywhere”, he added.

The Kamabla also comprised of slush track race for children and youth, Thappangayee (searching coconut in slush), Tug-of-war, treasure hunt, photo competition and other competitions’.

The Kadri Kamabla photo competition and exhibition was also organized on the occasion.

Jagadeesh Shettar, chief minister, Karnataka State also took part in the event as a special guest along with Vishweshwara Kageri, Belur Goplakrishna, B Nagaraj Shetty, JDS Leader, Krishna J Palemar, MLA, Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker and others.

‘Namma Tuluvere Yeduru Kathe’, a book Yuga Purusha publishers and a CD of rare photos of Kadri Kambala by Ravi Posavanike was also released on the occasion by the chief minister.

The photographers Ravi Posavanike, Bhaskar Amtoor, Vinay V Sequeira, Sudhakar Yermal and Chandrahas Kotekar who won the prize for their clicks received prizes from the chief minister.

Speaking on the occasion, CM said that the people of the coastal region are working hard to preserve their culture and tradition. He thanked Palemar and Yogeesh Bhat for giving him a chance to attend the programme.

The convener of Kadri Kambala, Navaneeth Shetty Kadri was also felicitated on the occasion by the chief minister.

Umanath Kotian, Tulu Academy president, local MCC member, Roopa D Bangera, Vidhwan Dr M Prabhakar Joshi, Balakrishna Kottari, Amruth V Kadri, youth Congress leader, Kadri Navaneeth Shetty and others were present.

    I congrats the convener and the committee members for organized such a grand function of Kadri Devara Kambla on 2nd December 2012. The different types of playing items in a different ways, and the winning candiates gifts also a memorable one,almost all the mangaloreans are enjoyed very much.

    I appericiate every year there is some sports at kambla. And this is the only place where the fields are left. If these sports would have not taken place here too flats would have come up.Now atleast to our kids v can show this is called fields where rice is grown.
