Mangalore: Multi-lingual Carol Singing Ends On a High Note

Mangalore, Dec 2: Christa Jayanthi Gaanalahari-2012 multi-lingual carol singing competition ended on a high note, here at St Vincent Ferrer Church grounds, Valencia on Sunday December 2.

The valedictory ceremony was presided over by B V Pinto, honourable justice of Karnataka High Court.

Elias Sanctis, NRI entrepreneur, Stephen Mendes, director of Western Institute of Technology, Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, parish priest, Dr Honey Cabral, principal of KTC, Anil Lobo, president of Catholic Sabha, Rita Menezes, vice president, Flavia Sequeira, secretary shared the dais.

























































Speaking on the occasion, Elias Sanctis said fight, murder and other immoral activities take place mainly due to rivalry among people. “An individual is remembered only if one respects others”, he added.

He lauded the parishioners for their unity and collective effort and appreciated the organizers of the programme.

B V Pinto in his address appreciated the efforts of the organizers for uniting the people of various sections through this programme. “It is the first step for unification of people and let us work together,” he added.

Stephen Mendes also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the organizers for putting up the unique event.

As part of the programme, various entertainment programmes were performed. Jokes and comedy by ‘Memory’ Mangalore, stick dance by Northeast students of Alva’s College enthralled the audience.

More than 700 contestants from various groups participated in the multi-lingual carol singing competition.

The entire venue resounded with melodious carols that not only won the hearts of the audience but also set in the festive spirit of Christmas.

The prize winners of English, Kannada and Konkani carol singing competition are as follows:

English

1. Rhythm of Love
2. CSI Kanthi Church, Jeppu
3. Mistletoes Mangalore

Kannada

1. CSI Kanthi Cjurch, Jeppu
2. CSI Shanthi Cathedral, Balmatta
3. Holy Cross Church, Cordel

Konkani

1. Team Imperialz (R), Mangalore
2. Holy Cross Church, Cordel
3. Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail

The first prize includes Rs 15,000 cash and trophy, second prize Rs 10,000 cash and trophy and third prize includes Rs 7,000 cash and trophy.

Fr Bonaventure Nazareth welcomed the gathering; CJ Sequeira compered while Anil Lobo delivered the vote of thanks.

Fr Praveen, assistant parish priest, Fr Paul Rego, Ivan D’Souza, Fr Roshan Crasta, Louis J Pinto among others were present.

Inauguration of Konkani Carol Singing Competition

Dr CL Furtado, former bishop of CSI –Karnataka Southern Diocese presided over the inauguration of Konkani carol singing competition while JR Lobo, Louis J Pinto, former president of Mandd Sobhan, Nigel Pereira, president of Catholic Sabha, Mangalore Pradesh were guests of honour.

In his presidential address, CL Furtado said that singing unites people and said that it is a way through which we can show unity. “The unification task is an attempt made by the organizers through this competition”, he said.

JR Lobo urged the people to celebrate Christmas along with other people in the society through which we can make the feast more meaningful.

Around 11 groups exhibited their talents in the Konkani Carol singing competition.
