Udupi: Baale Muhurta Performed at Kaniyur Krishna Mutt

Udupi, Dec 3: The Kaniyur Mutt performed the ‘Baale Muhurta’, the first of the preliminaries before the next Paryaya, here on Sunday, December 2.

Vidyavallabha Tirtha Swami of Kaniyur Mutt will ascend the Paryaya Peetha, also called the Sarvajna Peetha, at the 800-year-old Sri Krishna Mutt on January 18, 2014. It will be his second Paryaya.

Procession

After offering prayers at the Kaniyur Mutt, a procession comprising math representatives, led by the swamiji, and devotees went to the Chandramouleshwara temple, Ananteshwara temple and Sri Krishna temple and offered prayers. The procession then came to the entrance of the Kaniyur Mutt where the mutt representatives collected the saplings of plantain and sugarcane and went around the Car Street. The procession, which was accompanied by the royal elephant and traditional drumbeaters and trumpet blowers, culminated in the backyard of the Kaniyur Mutt.

The saplings of plantain, sugarcane and tulsi were planted in two rows in the backyard amid chanting of religious mantras.

Addressing the devotees, the swamiji said the temple-town of Udupi was known as “Anna Brahma Kshetra”. A large number of devotees visit the Sri Krishna Math/temple daily and they had to be provided with meals. It was necessary for the Paryaya Math to have a plentiful supply of plantain leaves for serving meals. Hence the Mutt concerned starts planting plantain saplings a year before the Paryaya festival. This was how the ritual of Baale Muhurta came into being, he said. “I want the cooperation of all people for the successful conduct of my second Paryaya,” the swamiji said.

During an interview given on the occasion of Baale Muhurtha on Sunday December 2, he detailed on the several projects prepared by the Mutt.

How is Paryaya Preparation?
 
First priority will be for meting out fair treatment to devotees of Shree Krishna Mutt. No visiting devotees should go back disappointed. Hence all the arrangements will be made. All the good deeds carried out in Shree Krishna Mutt will resume. All devotees should feel content in their heart after the Darshan of the presiding deity.
 
Co-operation from all areas sought. Likewise the good co-operation given during previous Paryaya period, the same is expected from the government too.
 
What is your future plan?
 
Steps will be initiated to create awareness of our lands culture. For that reason, a book weighing values inculcated in various roles of Mahabharata will be published on various languages. About 55 prominent writers will write for such books. They will be released gradually. Model schemes like Chinnara Santharpane will continue to happen. No plans to construct any new buildings.
 
What is your stand on unity of Asta Mutts?
 
I cannot say anything about unity. I have maintained a cordial relationship with all the Mutts. Hence I am not keen to speak on unity of Asta Mutts and thereby create impasse.
 
What is the contribution from the Mutt to the society?
 
The Mutt supports all good deeds that make the society better. Likewise the importance of our culture will be reached out to the people. The youth will be enlightened with the Indian culture. The Mutt will be proactive to help the people to lead satisfied life.
 
Any vision project for the devotees?
 
The devotees are like the assets of the temple. The Mutt will work hard to delight the devotees.
