Mangalore: Kodial Khabar Celebrates 5th Anniversary with 'Konkani Galgalo'

Mangalore, Dec 5: On the occasion of the 5th anniversary celebration by Kodial Khabar (Konkani Fortnightly), ‘Konkani Galgalo’, a variety entertainment cultural competition was held at Town Hall here on Wednesday December 5.

Basti Vaman Shenoy inaugurated the competition while Kasargod Chinna, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya academy, Geetha C Kini, social worker, Mavinakurve Venkatesh Baliga, editor, Vidya Baaliga, sub-editor shared the dais.

Basti Vaman Shenoy in his address said that the 'Kodial Khabar' was started with the intention to encourage a sense of reading among people. He commended the entire team of ‘Kodial Khabar’ for reaching out to 3,000 families across the country. "This should not stop here, instead the paper should grow to a greater heights and be equivalent to other newspapers," he said.

"Our mother tongue Konkani should be given importance and hence people should contribute towards it," he added.

Kasargod Chinna in his address lauded the periodical for reaching out to several people with its meaningful content. "It is not easy to start a newspaper, but ‘Kodial Khabar’ has done an impressive job which can be clearly understood in their past 5 years of work," he said.

He also appreciated the Kodial Khabar team for giving youngsters a wonderful platform through this competition where one could witness a bundle of talents.

On the occasion, the dignitaries honoured Geetha C Kini for her immense contribution to society.

Eight teams from various organization participated in the competition. They include GSB Kala Vrinda, Konchady; Konkani Samskrutika Sangha; Chaptekar Saraswath Brahman Samaj, Ullal Sri Tirumala Tatha Sri Laxmi Narasimha Temple; Vayshyavani Bala Samskar Kendra; GSB Mahila Vrinda; Yound Chitrapur Saraswath Association and GSB Mahila Mandali, Puttur.

A special issue of ‘Kodial Khabar’ consisting of 40 pages was released by Dr P Dayanand Pai, president of Century group, Bangalore on the occasion.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Venkatesh Baliga said that the new issue concentrates mainly on social issues. Commenting on the paper, he said majority of the readers are from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. "The team is planning to reach out to more number of people of different communities," he added.

M Raghunath Shet, K C Prabhu, Dr Prakash Nayak, M R Kamath, Kumble Narasimha Prabhu, B Ananth Pai, Naresh Kini, J P Nayak, Ratnakar Kudva among others were present.
