Counting for Council Polls in J&K Begins


Jammu, Dec 6 (IANS): Counting of votes for the four seats in the 36-member legislative council begun in Jammu and Kashmir Thursday amid tight security.

According to latest reports, National Conference (NC)- Congress coalition was leading in three out of four seats in the initial rounds, an official said.

The contest is multi-cornered with all the parties fielding their candidates, while the coalition partners - National Conference (NC) and Congress shared two seats each in Jammu region and the Kashmir Valley.

The polls, though for just four council seats, have become a prestige issues for all parties as it is being seen as an acid test in the run up to 2014 assembly elections.
