Dubai : Drunk Commits Suicide on Metro Track, Disrupts Service


Dubai, Dec 6 (Agencies) : A man committed suicide on Dubai Metro track which led to disruption of Metro service on Monday, Dubai Police said on Wednesday.

General Khamis Al Muzaina, Deputy Director of Dubai Police, said a man, Indian, climbed over the security fence of the Metro in front of Jumeirah Lake Towers and started walking on the track unitl he was hit and run over by one of the driverless trains.

“It was 6:30am when we received a call from Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) about finding a body on the Metro track. The man jumped over the low Metro fence and then sneaked through the emergency exit before reachingthe  Metro track,” Al Muzaina said.

The 36-year-old man - identified as HU - couldn’t be identified untill the second day [Tuesday]. Police identified his body after one of his friends reported to the police that HU was missing. The man, a bachelor, was planning to return to India.

“He worked as a driver in a company for two years and was living near the accident area; his brother told us that he was planning to return to India. We don’t know the exact reason behind his suicide but it seems he had some problems,” Al Muzaina added.

Dubai Police said they were waiting for the final report from RTA about this incident which will help them in the investigation. “Our forensic doctors discovered that he was drunk,” he said.

Al Muzaina said new security measures will taken to prevent such tragedies in the future.
