7.3 Magnitude Quake Hits Japan


Tokyo, Dec 7 (IANS): An earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale jolted the east coast of Japan's Honshu island Friday, Xinhua reported. The authorities have issued a tsunami warning.

The temblor, which struck at 5.18 p.m. Friday, had a depth of about 36 km, the US Geological Survey said.

In 2011, a 7.2 magnitude quake that hit Japan claimed more than 10,000 lives.
