Bahrain, Dec 9: The 35th Annual Day of Konkan Singers Club was celebrated Friday December 7 at Baan Saeng Thai Auditorium here.
The celebration started at 12 pm with cutting of cake by the executive committee along with the guests, and a welcome dance by Hazel and Rachelle followed by Christmas Tree event for children.
Walter Noronha, president of Konkan Singers Club welcomed the members and dignitaries in his address and thanked members for their continous support to the club which he said had paved the way towards progress.
During the function veteran Mangalorean community leader in Bahrain Henry D’Almeida, a person of ability, integrity and probity in public life, was felicitated for his immense contribution to the progress of Konkan Singers Club. He has contributed to the promotion of Konkani language and culture as committee member of Konkani Kutam Bahrain since its inception and also as social worker. He was honoured with a shawl and memento by chairman of Indian School Abraham John who was the chief guest of the function.
In his address he highlighted the contribution of Konkan Singers Club in promoting Indian culture in Bahrain. He congratulated Konkan Singers Club executive committee and the members on the occasion of celebrating 35th Annual Day.
The colourful event continued with various entertainment programmes comprising dances, singing and skits. Semi-finalists of Gulf Voice of Mangalore in Bahrain Melba Martis, Teena D’Souza, Preetham Aranha and Anil Barboza entertained the crowd with Konkani and Hindi songs. Two comedy skits were presented by Joel D’Sa, Hilda, Alfreeda, Hazel, Ashton, Steven and Arun. Two scintillating dances were presented by Eunice D’Souza and Ashel Castelino.
General secretary Steven D’souza delivered the vote of thanks.
Entertainment secretary Leo Fernandes and Bertram Rego compered the programme.
Sumptuous lunch was served for everyone present.
