Dubai, Dec 11: Emirates Pangalites, an association of Pangla parishioners residing in the UAE are all set to celebrate their decennial year with a grand 'Emirates Pangalites Dashamanotsav' on December 25 at St John’s High School Grounds, Shankerpura.
This is for the first time Emirates Pangalites are organizing an event in their native place, Pangla, which will include a host of renowned singers and artistes from Mangalore and Udupi and will be attended by many Pangalites from the UAE and other Gulf countries.
Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of the newly formed Diocese of Udupi will be the chief guest, while Fr Joseph Martis, rector, St Joseph’s Seminary and Fr Leslie D’Souza, parish priest of St John’s Evangelist Church Pangla and Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief of Daijiworld.com will be the guests of honour. The event will be also graced by eminent personalities from India and the Gulf countries.
EP - Outstanding Pangalite Award:
On the occasion of decenial celebrations, Emirates Pangalites has initiated the 'Outstanding Pangalite' award which will be conferred on 'Printania' fame, entrepreneur and educationalist Albert W D’Souza, Mumbai during the event.
Apart from his success in the printing industry, Albert has achieved a lot in the higher education arena. He is instrumental in obtaining permission for the establishment of four engineering and three management colleges in Mumbai. He has also helped a lot in starting St Joseph Engineering College, Mangalore. He is serving in the executive committees of all these Institutions.
The Aldel Education Trust founded by Albert D’Souza in 2007 runs four professional colleges - St John College of Engineering and Technology, St John Institute of Pharmacy and Research, St John Institute of Management & Research, St John Institute of Hospitality & Catering Technology at Palghar, in Mumbai.
Albert is the first individual (Laity), among the Mangalorean Konkani speaking Catholics world over with a rough estimate of about a million, to start engineering and pharmacy colleges and two other professional colleges and manage them successfully with cent percent student strength from the very first batch.
Since 2004, he has been the chairman of Model Co-operative Bank, which has 11 branches in Mumbai.
Albert is the vice-president of the Christian Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Mumbai. He was the only delegate from India to the Entrepreneurs Conference on Globalization and Social Responsibility held in Rome in March 4 and 5, 2004. On March 6, 2004, the then Pope John Paul II honoured him for his contributions to the society at large.
In the Lions International too Albert is active. He was the Award winning President of Lions Club, Bhimanagar, Borivli.
Albert is the supporter of Konkani activities too. He is the vice-president of Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Maharashtra, Mumbai.
Albert D'Souza is the recipient of several awards including ‘Rachana’ (2003), Papal Award for Printing Entrepreneur (Rome 2004), ‘Catholic Entrepreneur of Karnataka’ by the Federation of Karnataka Christian Associations, Bangalore (2007), and Global Entrepreneur of the Year Award by Entreprenet, Mumbai (Jan 2012).
Married to Elvina, the couple has a daughter - Elaine (married to Rueben Buthelo) and a son - Aldrige.

Anita Dsouza
Anita has degree in fine arts and dance and music from Sandesha college. She has sung in more than 200 albums in 8 different languages (Konkani, Kannada, Tulu, Malayalam, Hindi, Beary, Tamil and Navayathi) and presented more than 2000 shows all over India and abroad. She has been bestowed titles such as 'Tulunada Gaana Kogile' and 'Vishwagadinada Raani Kogile'.
Anil D'Sa Pangla
Anil D'Sa, born in August 13, 1973, is better known as Anil Pangla. Son of Antony and Lilly D'Sa, he studied in Shankerpura and Shirva and is a diploma holder in electrical engineering. Anil sung the famous song 'Mariola' from the famous Konkani Album from Mic Max. Currently running Melody Music School and Kushi playschool in Shankerpura, he won the first prize in singing competition organized by Catholic Natak Sabha, Mangalore. He has sung more than 50 Konkani and devotional songs for various albums. Anil is the lead singer for Piyega Piyega Nites in Mangalore.
Jerry Rasquinha
Jerry Rasquinha came to limelight when he bagged the first place for 'Best Actor' in the inter-parish Kala Sampath drama competition, for his role of ‘Novro’ in A T Lobo’s ‘Novro’ drama. He has written short stories and articles for almost most of the Konkani periodicals.
Jerry Rasquinha has always been associated with the most accomplished Konkani singer and composer Melwyn Peris. He has compered more than fifty Melwyn Peris nites and later taken up comedy in Melwyn Peris nites. He has bagged many prizes for his excellent performance in several dramas. Jerry and Duje first acted out jokes that were telecast on TV and produced by Mandd Sobhann. Jerry has also compered many a nite of Sangeeth Samrat Henry D’Souza. Jerry has performed in most of the Gulf countries, Mumbai and Bangalore and entertained Konkani people and won their hearts.
Joseph Pinto
Joseph began his career as a singer. Winning numerous prizes in singing competitions organized by Konkani Natak Sabha, he was highly regarded as a singer. Since then, he has sung for Melwyn Peris, Henry D’Souza, Mandd Sobhann and many other Konkani composers. Joseph has sung for almost 185 CDs as well as Konkani cassettes. He is very well-known for his rendition of devotional songs. For the past 18 years Joseph has been the lead singer for the beat group “Angels” of Kingsley Nazareth. An award winning actor, Duje has associated with Jerry Rasquinha and the humorous duo has been very well received by Konkani people.
Duje has been associated with Sangeeth Guru Joel Pereira and has sung and performed in ‘gumtam’ troupe. Joseph has performed in Dubai, Qatar and Mumbai. Happily married, he lives with his wife and two children in Mangalore.
Led by Rajgopal and his troupe, 'Strings' band, well-known in Udupi and Mangalore, will provide live music entertainment.
The event will be hosted by Uttam Menezes, a popular compere from the UAE. He has hosted several programmes in the Gulf countries and is well-versed in conducting programmes in Konkani, Tulu and English.

Emirates Pangalites, an association of all Pangalites (parish of Shirva Varado, Mangalore) residing in the United Arab Emirates, was formed with the motto 'United We Grow'. The objective of forming the association was to unite all Pangalites spread all over the UAE under one umbrella and help and support the poor and the needy back home. With this intention in mind, a few prominent Pangalites in the UAE under the able leadership of Mickey Castelino joined hands to form Emirates Pangalites, which was inaugurated on January 24, 2003.
