Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (VM)
Mangalore, Dec 16: Divine Word, the first Catholic Religious 24x7 channel and website www.divineword.in of Mangalore and Udupi diocese will be inaugurated at Milagres Church premises on December 22.
Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore will inaugurate the channel and the website.
The main aim of the channel is to reach out to all Christians under one forum and to build a Christ-centered multicultural community with love, peace and justice.
Along with telecasting programmes like Holy Mass, Word of God, Novena, Catholic activities, news, Bible stories, youth programmes, adoration, church choir, Faith band and retreat, the channel will also promote charitable activities such as aiding the needy, education of poor children, providing medical assistance, shelter for the aged and the homeless and so on.
The channel is the brainchild of Stephen Mendes. Other than excelling in the field of education as chairman of Western Institute of Technology, he is also a partner in V4 Media and chairman of Mendes constructions.
Speaking on his latest venture, he said the new channel would act as a voice of all Christians. "It is also an opportunity for those who cannot visit the church to listen to the word of god. I am sure I can take this channel ahead with the help of religious heads and the Christian community," he said.
Commenting on the aim of the channel, he said it is not meant for entertainment. "I do not expect any return from this channel, instead I want to spread the word of god," he said.

Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza also expressed his happiness over taking such an intiative and said, "The channel will be a medium to spread god’s message. Just as all other religions make use of electronic media to spread their religion, Divine Word will be especially meant for Christians. Hence we should make optimum use of this benefit," said the Bishop.
He asked people to make use of the channel whenever they were free and thus be close to god.
"The channel will also introduce our religion to others and will be useful to unite with other communities, he added, lauding the initiative of Stephen Mendes and wished him good luck in his endeavour.
