Oscar Baffles Parliament with Kannada Speech

Oscar Baffles Parliament with Kannada Speech

New Delhi, Dec 19 (PTI):
Congress leader Oscar Fernandes' speech was all Greek and Latin to most of the members in Rajya Sabha today.

Fernandes spoke in his native Kannada on the Bill to accord special status to the backward districts of Hyderabad-Karnataka region, but most of the members could not understand a large part of his speech. This was because the translator was not available when Fernandes started speaking, only to come at the fag end of his speech.

Tiruchi Siva (DMK), who was in the Chair, told Fernandes that the facility of a translator could not be made available immediately and that he could participate in the discussion when the translator came. Moreover, Minister of State for Home RPN Singh, who moved the Bill, was unable to understand him.

But, several members from across party lines and mostly from the southern states encouraged him to continue speaking in Kannada, though Fernandes had at one point agreed to speak in Hindi.

Basawaraj Patil (BJP) also spoke in Kannada after Fernandes while Devender Gaud T (TDP) spoke in Telegu.

    Another blunder by our Oscaranna!!

Instead of making it a proud moment for the state and the nation to remember, he put all those around him to sleep, who couldn't understand a single word of Kannada!!

This clearly shows his inablity to display his patriotism of our language and our state at the best opportunity given to him.

I think Mallikarjuna Kharge would have been the best candidate to deliver that historic speech as he represents that region, instead of Oscaranna ((in English of course))

His fete deserves to be included in the 2012 Guinness Book of Records!!

Language is for communication & understanding, not for delivering speech where majority cannot understand. This is done in view of elections. Why don't the minister take keen interest in the repairs of B'lore- M'lore Ghat section which is in horrible state? All these ministers & bigwigs should be made to travel by road in this Ghat section so that they should realise the problems faced by the common man.

    Mr. Joy Catelino
    Oscar appraised the difficulties
And inconveniences for people of coastal Karnataka and adjoining districts like Chikmagalore, Kodagu and Shimoga in getting passport and in dealing with passport related issues. Also earlier to get the Passport office in Mangalore Mr. Oscar hand was there.
Otherwise We NRI every time need to run Bangalore even to renewal the Passport as well.
I had been noticed there is More strength in his each statement but not succeeded because Politic is not Single hand game brother, if somebody wants to do good implementation another hand
Will be there ready to stop. even though he had been dispatched some strong statement
To sort out this issue I wish him, better become President of India then he will be the shark in Politics rest all fish he can take the decision his own and can implement in to practically as well.

By speaking kannada or konkani ( Tulu speaking is not allowed in Parliament) he just getting publicity nothing else!!!.

Oscar Fernandes' spoke Kannada in Rajya Sabha! o.k. but,
If we know and are conversant, we should always speak in the languages which majority audience understands!
When 2 Indians from different states meet in foreign Country they do not speak in common language!
    Very uncommon to other Countrymen!
We should have a common language, i.e. Hindi, widely known.
English is known to so many it is International language.
I am conversant with 6 languages, but what happens is our proficiency tend to get reduced due to usage and mixing of so many languages and irregular use of some language.
Some time I just ponder on our Children had to learn so many languages, their time could have been used to learn other subjects useful in life.
Whether we like it or no, Hindi & English is gaining popularity and other regional languages usage is gradually diminishing including our own!

Hindi is not our national language. India does not have any national language according to constitution. English and Hindi are official languages.

Why ban state languages? Instead Hindi should be banned in Karnataka. I studied Hindi from 5th to 10th Std as a third language. I never found this is useful in my life. Till now I am not able to utter one sentence in Hindi properly and not able to understand that language even 50%. I feel in place of Hindi, Moral science or Computer subject should be introduced.

Stop giving credit to congress for special status to HK region. It is not because of Karnataka congis. It is due to the unified effort of MPs of Andhra, Orissa, Assam etc. Along with Karnataka, for other states region also this status was given.

If congress is concerned about backward regions, why they took 60 years? Your congress needs to give special status to whole india from the swiss bank fund.

Oscar is a very high influential person in congress. He is very close to Sonia gandhi. According to a Kannada Newspaper, KH Muniyappa got promoted to INDEPENDENT MINISTRY thru influence from Oscar, in the recently held cabinet expansion.

But very sad thing is that he does not use his POWER in solving people's problem. He is least concerned about his people. It is a matter of few hours for him to get a RAILWAY DIVISION to Mangalore, introducing more train to Bangalore/Mumbai, including Tulu in 8th Schedule of constitution, NH widening etc etc. He is an utter useless man for people.
