Amitabh Bachchan on Delhi Rape: Even an Animal won't Behave So

Mumbai, Dec 20 ( PTI): Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has vented his anger over the gang-rape of a Delhi student in a moving bus, saying that even an animal wouldn't have behaved in this manner.

The 70-year-old actor said on Twitter that he had a lot to express about the Sunday night incident but he was too disturbed by the atrocity of it.

"Wanted to say so much of the day.. but so disturbed by the gang rape case in Delhi.. atrocious and unforgivable!!...The fear of system, of order, of conduct guided by justice, is fast disappearing. Is this the freedom that our elders fought for!!

"On this public platform I dare not even attempt to mention the details of the rape case... even an animal would not behave so," he posted on the micro-blogging site.

"Durga, Kali, Lakshmi are goddesses... we pay homage to them, respect them. Women need to be respected, and given pride of place," he added.

The 23-year-old paramedical student was gang-raped and brutally assaulted in a moving bus by four men who also attacked her male friend and threw both of them out of the vehicle.

Actress Priyanka Chopra also tweeted about the incident, saying that it's scary that an independent woman in her own country cannot take a bus without the fear of being attacked.

"This is not just a crime against women.. It's a crime against society.. With so much being said about how women need to dress appropriately or behave appropriately.. I find this whole dialogue absurd..

"A woman is not raped because She's out at night or wearing a short dress or drinking.. She's raped cause SOMEONE RAPED HER!! And there is no excuse or explanation for that," she tweeted

no punishment that can be given to these culprits under our current laws will be felt as "sufficient" by the victim as well as most of the people in this country.
The girl and her relatives should seriously consider to give a suitable and fitting punishment to the culprits.

Sir I agree with You.If girls are taught in same class ,same school as boys why can't they enjoy the right to go out at nyt and dress up freely like boys do.Its their choice and is it a crime if a grl wants to look good.we all are Indians and every Indian has right to enjoy the life he/she wants to enjoy. But,few ppl take this openness of girls in wrong way and consider dem soft target.Today we leave the culprits of this henious crime at mercy of time and we prove to every grl in the country that we are incapable of protecting you.... At least for once lets all come together leaving aside our insecurities and pray for that girl and teach a lesson to the culprits....

ardhanarishwar is an accepted indian concept. means man and woman to be respected equally. In today's times we have forums for educating girl child, reservations for women and the like, in different fora. if an educated woman ventures out in her own country with a male friend, respect is to be shown by raping and maiming her? and this is done repeatedly in the capital city. And all that we are able to do is sit around helplessly. In most cases the victims are punished for life by th trauma and stigma, and the perpetrators roam free and fearless. this is beyond belief, let alone logic. Believe the time has come to emulate other countries that have a better code for tackling crimes and change our own laws to sensitize society.

Mr. Amitabh Bachchan: As you have said, some people are born to the world as two legged animals and we need to treat them as four legged
wild animals, showing no mercy for conducting totally animlistic sadism. Those culprits who have destroyed the life of an innocent woman must be punished in an open ground like dealing with mad dogs.
