Kasargod: Teacher Gets 22 Years in Jail for Raping Minor

Kasargod, Dec 21: In a landmark judgement, the Kasargod district sessions court has sentenced a Madrasa teacher to 22 years of rigorous imprisonment and penalty of Rs 25,000 for the rape of a 10-year-old girl.
A T Ayub alias Ayub Sakhafi (28), a teacher in a Madrasa at Munakadavu is the convict.
A total of three cases were lodged against him on charges of rape, threat and destruction of evidence.
He has been awarded ten years of imprisonment each for rape and assault, and two years for destroying evidence.
If he fails to pay the penalty to the victim, he will have to undergo an additional 6 months in jail.
The incident took place on August 10, 2008. It is said that he took a 10-year-old student to another room at the Madrasa on the pretext of taking lessons, and raped her. He had further threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone.
The incident was investigated by Adoor circle inspector, T P Ranjith. As many as 25 eye-witnesses were produced in the case.
