Udupi, Dec 23: "Today, people do not give importance to caste, family and group politics. People expect only development from their representatives," said former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda.
He was speaking after inaugurating the district BJP convention at Town Hall here on Sunday December 23.
He further said, "BJP is getting ready for the forthcoming elections. Presently the party workers may be in confusion because of some statements by Yeddyurappa, but there is no worry. Yeddyurappa says that he has undertaken developmental works in the state, but even before he became the CM, the party had planned and decided on the projects, hence it is the work done by BJP and not Yeddyurappa. So whoever might be the chief minister, it is work of the party not of individual."
Sadananda Gowda said that before January 20, 2013 BJP will release the names of candidates to 120,125 constituencies.
“On January 5, Dharmendra Pradhan and national leaders will come to the state and this time, BJP will fight elections with under proper leadership. In 140 constituencies BJP will face competition from the Congress, and in 30 constituencies from the JD(S), while the other parties may compete only in 5,6 constituencies," he said.
"Yeddurappa had given January 14 as the last date to join his party. Six months ago, he used to say that 70 MLAs supports him, but unfortunately, only 14 MLAs attended his convention. Out of the 14, five pleaded forgiveness with BJP. In Gujarat, the BJP came to power because of development, not because of caste or group politics," he added.
"The Congress failed to rule in Karnataka so people made them sit in the opposition. Even in JD(S) groupism has reached its height, with differences of opinion between Kumaraswamy and Revanna," he said.
Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, Kota Shrinivasa Poojary, muzrai minister, Raghupathi Bhat, MLA, Lalaji Mendon, MLA, Reshma, Mahila Morcha district president, Manohar Kalmady, town president of BJP, H Rathnakar Shetty, Geethanjali Suvarna, Yashpal Suvarna, fisheries federation president and others were present.
District president K Udayakumar welcomed the gathering. Secretary Tingale Vikramarjuna compered the event.
