Bangalore: Fire Breaks out at St Mary's Basillica on Christmas Eve

Bangalore, Dec 24 (TNN): A fire broke out on the eve of Christmas when the community members had assembled at St Mary's Basillica church in Shivaji Nagar on Monday at 9.40pm.

The chariot that was being decorated for the procession of the St Mary, caught fire, creating panic situation at the Church premises for couple of minutes.

Thousands of devotes who had assembled in the church for the Christmas eve mass witnessed the fire accident that took place in the open field in front of the church.

"We got call from the Church at 9.40pm and we rushed from Mayo Hall Fire service station with a fire engine within five minutes. No one has been injured in the accident. However, entire chariot that was being decorated has been burnt fully. On the prima facie of the incident, it looks like the accident occurred due to short circuit," said a fire fighter who was at the spot.

"We saw smoke and flames coming from outside the church and we stepped out to see what was happening. Thankfully, none of the volunteers who were decorating the chariot have been hurt," said Mari Das, a devotee who was at the spot.

Thank God no one was hurt and nothing happened to the church.
It shows that God dont like all these decorations. He was born simple and wants all celebrations simple.

The fault is electrical contractor who did the job on 'CHALTHA HAI" attitude. We indians never ever do our job right, That's why we need westerns to tell us 'do the job as told'.

Great that no one was hurt!
Why was the chariot made? Was Jesus born in a chariot? Or was it to carry the celebrant to the church to celebrate Christmas (birth of Jesus who was born in a stable on a manger)
Let's keep our celebrations in line with the reality of the birth of Jesus. Let Jesus be born in each of our hearts and teach us the art of celebration without glamour. He did not take human form to be a glamorous king to ride on a chariot but He chose an ass to enter Jerusalem when foolish people like us sang hosanna's to Him and then within no time to shout Crucify Him.
