Puttur: Thieves Loot Gold Worth Rs 10 Lac from House

Daijiworld Media Network – Puttur (VM)

Puttur, Dec 26: Thieves decamped with gold worth Rs 10 lac from a house adjacent to Bannur church here on Monday December 24.

The house owner Pramila Gonsalves and her daughter had taken part in the Christmas celebration and returned home at night.

The theft took place after they went to bed at 11.30 pm. The incident came to light when they woke up in the morning.

As per the information received, the thieves broke open the back door and entered the house. They found cupboard key easily and decamped with gold weighing 310 grams, a vanity bag and NRI cheques.

Pramila had kept all her gold in the bank locker, but it home to wear during the Christmas celebration. Pramila’s husband John Gonsalves is working abroad and her daughter is studying in Mangalore.

Incidentally, the theft is said to taken place in the same room where the mother-daughter had slept.

Sources said that five years ago an unsuccessful attempt to loot was made in the same house. A year back, a similar kind of theft was reported in a house at Krishnanagar where a mother and daughter were residing. Police suspect that the same gang was involved in the three incidents.

As soon as the theft came to light, Pramila informed the police. ASP M N Anucheth along with other officials visited the spot. The ASP also informed the officials of the crime detection branch and directed them to show Pramila photographs of wanted thieves.

Canine squad and fingerprint experts were also called.

A case has been registered in the Puttur town police station. Further investigation will be carried out by inspector N Sudarshan.

Instead of criticizing the commentators should have offered helping hand or sympathy to the distressed family with some cash or kind. They lost everything. My sympathy to the family who lost hard earnings. May God bless them.

in this case certainly thieves have watched having a Gold fund on xmas day or someone gave a sign like some housemaid or so.then must have comein and used eather gas .otherwise how can in the same room when one open the cupboard and takeaway the gold and owners sleep dont hear the noice ?and wake up only in the morning .its also silly to keep the key nearby.for the future it is better everyone should install a alarm system at home and treasure with alarm. naturally only when they have valueables athome.even a video system in big shops is best thing you can do instead of crying out or blaming Govt.these days thefts are become daily routine.we should care ourself.

This is reply Mr. Nagesh Nayak (‘Mam’) and the points he has raised.
CORRUPTION STARTS FROM CITIZENS. – Now you have mentioned that public is responsible for the corruption. So please stop blaming Italian madam going forward as you do always. I completely agree with you that Corruption starts from the citizens and ends with citizens. But you cannot paint that everyone is corrupt.

MOST OF THE CITIZENS PAYS BRIBE FOR THEIR BENEFITS – Corruption need not be only in form of bribes. Using other means such as sweet deals, payments in kind and using influence is also part of the corruption. (So next time when you try to get admission to your daughters son to convent school please don’t contact Sr. Jessy Crasta. Just kidding!!)

WHY MOST OF THE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS TAKE CASH FOR DONATIONS – Educational Institutes can take the cash in donations but this does not mean the funds are not accounted. Funds are duly accounted (Given Receipt) and expenditures are also recorded correctly by these educational institutes at least in institutes run by catholic institutions. If you are aware of any institution which is taking cash and does not give the receipt you as a citizen of India have the responsibility to report this to the concerned authorities.

WHY MOST OF THE PROPERTIES ARE SOLD IN CASH – This is to avoid the payment of stamp duty and to avoid capital gains tax. Here also as a responsible citizen these have to be reported to appropriate authorizes.

IF YOU GO IN DEEP YOU WILL BECOME MAD - What do you mean here? There should be more raids on BJP leaders or in the houses of ordinary citizens?

SO, ACCEPT WHATEVER IS HAPPENNING IS RIGHT – Now it’s your turn to accept all things.

Heard of several incidents especially from in and around Mangalore that very lately today's teenagers are having a tough time garnering admission fees for various courses, since this amount is not easily forthcoming and they have to pay through their nose. Main reason for robbery - teenagers desperately wanting to make a quickie in the least possible time. Nobody wants to slog out in trying for employment, even if they have the potential. Hence they’ve adopted a new strategy ... by doing ''very special night watchman duties'' in and around various places i.e. wedding functions, religious ceremonies, seminars, meetings etc. and preying on young / old unsuspecting ladies wearing bulky jewellery ornaments - especially those travelling alone and staying in far-flung remote interiors with least possible negligible transport OR if they are alone without any company. These teenagers know pretty well that most of these ladies hail from well-to-do families whose near-and-dear ones are working abroad. Although it is a risky factor, at the end of the day, who doesn’t want to take a chance!!

When the fence is eating the crop then what do you expect.
It is what BJP Govt. in Karnataka has taught and teaching many of their followers and some others, in the art of looting State treasury, farmers of their land, innocent individuals of their sites which were allotted by the govt or bought from their own hard earned money, taking exorbitant bribes for various services and now robbing individuals of their ngold ornaments. These robbers are not afraid of getting caught as they have their BJP Godfathers in the Govt.\Police.
For them it is "I scratch\you scratch - each others backs"

This is reply to Mr. Nagesh Nayak.
    1. Till now you were saying that only political leaders are corrupt and illegal wealth. Now you are saying all Indians are corrupt and have amassed wealth through black money. This is correct assessment on your part.
    2. There should be proper coordination between various govt agencies to increase the tax collection. One has to pay wealth tax in addition to income tax.
    3. Funds received from abroad is completely legal and there is no issues with it as it comes from authentic sources. This is the same money which bails out the Indians and will help Indians to pay the fuel bills and for their imports.
    4. Disbursement of funds is not a issue as it expenditure on the part of the recipient. The person who is spending need not pay any tax but it is other party which is responsible for paying the taxes.

Your statement ' MOST OF THE HOUSEHOLD ARE HAVING ASSETS MORE THAN ANY CORRUPT POLITICIANS' is not at all applicable for the ordinary citizens. While political leaders are indulging in corrupt practices and cause loss to the exchequer the burden of which falls on ordinary citizens. On the other hand ordinary citizens can not earn money ILLEGALLY but their only fault is not paying taxes on the income which means the money is black money. Once the individual pays the taxes on his income it becomes completely legal.
BUT THE MONEY EARNED BY POLITICAL LEADERS/PEOPLE IN POWER IN PRIVATE SECTOR AND PUBLIC SECTOR WHICH INCLUDES ALL EMPLOYEES CAN NOT BE MADE LEGAL EVEN IF THEY IT AND PAY TAXES AS IT IS OBTAINED BY ILLEGAL MEANS.

SO YOUR REQUEST FOR THE RAIDS FROM LOKAYUKA IS NOT APPLICABLE FOR ORDINARY CITIZENS.

PEOPLE IN POWER AND IN PUBLIC LIFE SHOULD BE SUBJECT TO LOKAYUKTA RAIDS WHILE OTHERS SHOULD BE PROBED BY INCOME TAX AUTHORITIES.

Majority of the comments here reflect the typical mind set of most Mangaloreans, who do not have proper jobs, no money, no goal in life, BUT find fault with others and criticize. Sadly, I find that there are no sympathizers to the lady who has lost 10 lacs of hard earned savings which her husband must have earned by working hard by living outside India all alone unlike guys like Mr. Nayak who has spare time to write meaningless comments trying to figure out ways to find funds received from abroad and disbursements etc., NOT his own BUT someone else’s of course.
What is the point in buying gold if it to be stored in a locker by fooling outsiders with imitation Mr. Saldanha alone may be able to answer !
Believe it or not, some one has gone to extent of even asking OTHERS not to have assets like gold, who says “Simply do charity” !
I wish there was one comment with some positive feed back suggesting a possible solution to a recurring problem of this sort. God Bless us Mangaloreans.

Many times I wonder, why these women want to show off with their wealth, which will definitely attract bad elements very freely.

Did not the family had a taste of robbery before. "Learn ya from the past mistakes & the consequences therein"

Still if you are daring to exhibit your yellow metal, then face the risk.

Even without your 'aadmi (husband), daring lady ya.

Gold is a security for the person who is owning it. Father gives his daugther @ the time of marriage. Husband / wives saves penny to buy gold for future. Definitly not for exhibiting.

Gold ornament increasingly dangerous commodity due to it's skyrocketing price on daily basis.Gold related thefts are talk of the day and common. It is the responsibility of the owner of the gold to safeguard rather than rely on Police department. It is better to keep all golds in lockers except for the daily usable one.
