Mangalore, Dec 26:
The modified version of 'Made Made Snana', termed as ‘Ede Snana’ a ritual wherein devotees roll over the ‘prasadam’ of the deity at Shree Kshetra Subrahmanya (instead of rolling over banana plaintains of the leftover meals of Brahmins as in Made Snana) should not be regarded as a ritual that desecrates the prasadam, said Sri Vishweshatirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math, Udupi here on Wednesday December 26.

Addressing a press conference in the city, the Swamiji contented that if ‘Ede Snana’ was rejected on the argument that prasadam gets desecrated in the process, then even a dip in the holy Ganga would contaminate the river.

On the recent criticism by Sri Nidumamidi Swamiji against him alleging double standards on the Made Snana issue, the Pejawar Swamiji said that it was a false statement. "Nidumamidi Swamiji had earlier congratulated me for suggesting Ede Snana in place of Made Made Snana, but now he is criticizing me," he lamented.

He asserted that there was no need for practicing Made Snana as it led to discrimination among people of different castes, unlike Ede Snana.

On discrimination in serving food among Brahmins and other caste people at Sri Krishna Temple in Udupi, the Swamiji said that it is a practice wherein food is served separately for the orthodox. "Even Brahmins go to have their food at mass meals at the temple," he said, adding that there was no discrimination.

On Nandikur power plant, the Pejawar Swamiji said that he never took a backward step in his fight for justice. "If people come forward to fight, then I will support them anytime. Farmers will not be neglected," he said, calling upon the people to fight collectively.

Many comments on madesnaana show a lot of narrow mindedness among the people. i have seen comments like you atheists, you people belonging to another community, you hindu bashers etc do not have right to comment on madesnaana. Which means only Hindus can comment on madesnaana. However when practicing Hindus speak against madesnaana. these people counter them with arguments like, there are lot of superstitious practices among non Hindus too. It is time to introspect with an open mind on age old customs.one can debate with himself & then comment.every human being has come from mothers womb & are not directly ped from heaven. As long you pray to almighty with devotion your prayers will be answered.

I feel we have failed to progress with time, get rid of rituals that are really not needed. I am a practising Hindu and such things should have been gotten rid of long time ago. When spirutality is something between you and the Almighty why do you need rituals like these? are we able to address any problems with such rituals? We have to evolve and learn to follow things that are good in the collective sense and not carry forward rituals created light years ago. As Shahnawaz stated we all are equal infront of the almighty and lets shun such practices that leave a scar in the thoughts of lot of people. Let us rise to the situation and not fall prey to practices that do not serve the greater good. I am not putting down any shrine or God or person here as I feel that this was a practice created by humans like us who wanted to show their superiority. We have to collectively stand up and show our disregard towards such practices in any possible form.

Modified 'Made Snana' to ‘Ede Snana’. If something gets wrong with 'Ede snana' what next 'Tode Snana'? Don't get me wrong. Changing as per our requirement ! This is nothing but superstitious belief.

Why changing Made Snana to other snana?. That means we can change any way as per our requirements? whether God will accept it?. So, I think this is a superstition like 'Pathi Sahagamana' putting widow into fire' Now completely disappeared. Hope this will also disappear. If not keep reservation to Dalit or other tribes, when appearing interwiew if you are qualified also you will not get job because of caste. Today even 'Koraga' family member we can see in government job. It is great step by govt. But do not keep any quota or reservation to Minorities it is wrong being differenciating from the public which is dangerous to the society.

@shanawaz, I agree with you. But i have noticed that in many temples/matas, non-brahmins are also performing poojas. Learning veda, puranas are not only limited to Brahmins.

    Mr Vinay/Mangalore,

I agree with you and I endorse your views. We need to give emoloyment to the talented and most deserving candidates and people should be helped to get educated and we should uplift people socially, economically through good and quality education which will empower them economically. Please do away with reservations and quota system...lets have open sky policy in all matters including politics and voting. Let other non brahmins learn vedas and mantras and become priests.. break this monopoly also so that learned men become priests and priesthood should be attributed to the knowledge and not to birth... do you agree with me.

    I agree with Mr. Ismail.
Apart from this, we are fighting against caste system and say that all human beings are equal. Then why Govt is not removing reservation? Why can't they give job for the qualified people? Why we need reservation? Those who are poor, help them by providing free education irresepctive of caste/Religion. But no, we want to do caste politics to come into power.
