Delhi Repeats in Kasargod: Bantwal Girl Gang-raped Twice, One Held

Stephan Kayyar
Daijiworld Media Network – Kasargod (VM)

Kasargod, Dec 27: Even as the nation has its attention fixed on the brutal gang-rape incident at New Delhi, a similar case was reported at Kumble here.

An 18-year-old girl from Kanyana in Bantwal was allegedly gang-raped in a Maruti Omni on December 24 but the incident came to light only much later.

Auto driver Ganesh

The victim was working as a maid in an apartment in Mangalore and reportedly fell in love with Asgar from Uppala.

On December 24, Asgar is said to have called the girl to Uppala, where she reached in the afternoon. She was then taken in a Maruthi Omni on the pretext of going to a park in Mangalore, and allegedly raped by four men including Asgar. They later dumped her near Kumble railway station and fled.

But for the girl, the cruelty did not end there.

The victim who was wandering in the area, did not know what to do or where to go for help. At around 8 pm, an auto driver identified as Ganesh (24) offered to help her and take her home. But Ganesh allegedly took her to a remote area and once again she was raped. The auto driver left her at Kumble bus stand.

Looking at the battered condition she was in, a few people at around 2 am on December 25 informed the police. She was soon admitted to Kumble hospital.

The gang-rape and the second rape came to light after the police questioned her later. The victim in her statement said that she had been raped by 7 people altogether. It is suspected that two other accused were with Ganesh.

Police with the information provided by her arrested the auto driver Ganesh, who hails from Hosabettu and a case was registered against Asgar along with five others. The accused are said to be absconding and search is on to trace them.

As per the information received, the girl has had a troubled life ever since her father passed away some months ago. Later, her mother re-married and hence she was residing in her uncle’s house. Sources said that she started working in an apartment in Mangalore a few months back.

Roshan, it is very difficult to confirm whether it is by forceful or by will that is the reason most of the rape cases are pending you can't just hang someone without going through proceedings unless the person himself accepts it or solid evidence/witness is given. There are lot of tests to be carried out to confirm otherwise you will be hanging a innocent man for no reason. A women can just blame you that you molested her and can ask for money I am sure these type of humans existing in India.

Why people are behind death penalty. i.e. If any girl wants to take revange on any man, if she calls him to have sex with her than goes to Police and informs that he has raped me. What will happen to that man? Police will arrest him and take the medical, and in medical it is proved he had sex with hir, so how to judge it is mutual sex or rape?

Rape is a cruel crime and punishment should be no short of death. Period.

In the wake of Delhi's recent gang rape, the Union Govt. has set up a Justice Verma Committee, inviting suggestions on amendments to criminal laws relating to women's safety.

Members of the public could send their suggestion on or before 5th Jan 2013 to justice.verma@nic.in

This is an ideal platform to express our views and the level of punishment one should receive for harming women.

Hope a day will come we never hear about rape incidents anymore in future.

In Karnataka, when the ministers themselves show the way for such kind of deplorable activity and get away with it too, naturally some people too think their such actions are justified.
If Govt. had taken suitable action and meted ou punishment to the ministers, then these lesser people would not have dared to commit such kind of atrocity on innocent victims
Rape incidents are on the rise in Karnataka day by day.
Most of the people who commit these crimes have political clout, hence they are not punished\taken action against by the police!!!

This requires emergency calling to stop this rape. Death sentence or castration is not the solution. The only solution to this problem is life term imprisonment backed with such hard labour of 18 hours every day that brings pain and suffering to their mind and body. Death is immediate but this pain and suffering through hard labour should be a long term. They should not be given medical treatment for any sickness during the life term sentence and treated with no humanity.

These kind of crimes are happening due to the over population and gender inequality. Lack of moral sense is also responsible. A total failure of political, social, economical, spiritual and mental aspects of a minority of the so called "human beings" is clearly evident. I'm afraid, there is no immediate solution to this problem. The sad story is that the political b@****ds use these incidents for their advantage. Unfortunately the common man suffers.
