Udupi: Man Stabs Drunken Brother to Death

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Dec 30: In an incident reported at Madhvanagar here on the night of Friday December 28, a man killed his younger brother who was in a drunken stupor when the latter tried to attack their father.

The deceased has been identified as Udaya Kumar (28), son of Gopal Poojary and resident of Naikana Katte. His elder brother Ravi Kumar (31) is the accused.

It is said that Udaya used to come home drunk every day and pick fights with the family. On Friday night at around 10 pm, he came home inebriated and began arguing with his father Gopal.

When Udaya tried to hit his father, Ravi intervened and a fight arose between the brothers. In a fit of anger, Ravi stabbed Udaya with a knife, injuring him grievously.

Udaya was rushed to a private hospital by the locals, and later shifted to Manipal hospital for further treatment. He breathed his last early next morning.

Udaya was unmarried and unemployed. Ravi too is a bachelor.

A case was registered in the Malpe police station.

Alcohol is the mother of all evils.Get away from this evil you may prosper - Aboobakkar

Aboobakkar, what about terrorists those plant bombs and kill people? Are they also commit crimes under the influence of alchohol? I don't support alchoholism. At the same time I still believe that alchohol is not the sole reason for whole lot of crimes.

Dr Kamath Sir as far as my observation is concerned in the medical fraternity most of the doctors do drink. do not they treat their patients well?? are they not good doctors ? do all the murders take place under influence of liquor only?? I drink(not everyday) and i feel it just stimulates mind for particular thought or state. For a rapist/murderer already there is animal propensity which just provokes/aggravate after drinking. So in this case alcohol is not the cause. I think you agree with me for the fact that studies have been made moderate drinking give some health benefits. It is the mind set of the people that people who drink are bad its a Haram in the religion. If you give example of Gandhi g , I give you example of Jesus Christ who did a miracle of turning water into wine. boz wine is good. i have 2 good friends 1 christian and other one is parsi. In their house empty bottles (branded) are more than vessels at home and they never bad or community is bad. Cheers doctor ! happy new year

Very Sad incidence, brother is killing own brother. I think he could not have controlled his brothers addiction and troubling his father.
However no way killing can be justified, now killer also can not live in peace for life. All lost!
Disturbed minds always resorts to excessive drinking or other type of addictions. Therefore we can not blame alcohol, it is neutral, problem is with the disturbed behavior.

    Dear Abutalmiz,

I am deeply touched and felt pain by reading your comments. Not only yours but many of our friends who commented in the past. I am with you. It was absolutely a horror to read and watch those images & it’s still very much alive in everyone’s mind & heart. As you have pointed out to Modi and Sushma, yes, today the same people are crying and asking a fast justice for the culprits of the gang raped student. Nothing wrong. But where were they when those riots were taking place and when their brothers and sisters also children (Muslims and Hindus) were stabbed to death & burnt alive? Didn’t they felt the pain & anguish? Why not protest at that time? Shocking!!!! It’s been 10 years now. Would they ask for a fast justice at least NOW? Only time can say. God, please forgive them.Everyone say mindset need to be changed and everyone should be schooled but I say along with this God fear and Godly love can change everything. When God’s peace comes, everyone will be at peace and becomes normal. God bless you all.

Banning alchohol is not the solution Dr. Kamath. We should have strict laws against crimes. Alchohol is bad but all crimes are not committed by consuming alchohol. There are so many dowry deaths in which mother in laws dowse daughter in laws. Is it due to alchohol effect? Also, Gujarat riots and riots in other parts of India. I consume alchohol within specified limit. So do you label me as criminal or rapist Dr. Kamath? And I have seen lot of commentators on this forum vomiting communal venom. Is that also due to alchohol? If you ban alchohol, then lot of country liqor centres will be opened by people and those who are addicted to alchohol, it is very hard for them to go away from alchohol.

Where there is ban for anything more and more is available due to curoiocity among humans. In Gujrat plenty of alocohol is available even after ban.

God has created everything for good purpose. Man has used it for bad things/for bad purposes.
It is unfortunate that people drink and go out of control.
Alcohol is used for medicines also.

Killing of a human is breaking of one commandment out of 10 commandments of God. May the departed soul rest in peace.

I do entirely endorse you. But what about the riots sponsored by Modi in 2002. Was that Alcohol? you may say its a reaction to the Godhra. The Godhra cuprits were convicted, which is fair. But Modi still alive.
Gujrati Muslims minor girls were raped and killed... pregnant women stabbed to death. But sadly no voices picks sound in the parliament from BJP high command leaders despite video footage are available. Sushma Swaraj cries after Delhi rape incident. Yes, Alcohol is the root cause for the crimes but subsequently, at the same time justice for the victims and the punishment for the criminal are equal important to curb down such crimes.
