Karnataka Bank Celebrates 75 Years of Kundapur Branch

“Karnataka Bank was set up seven decades ago when the region had no other prime business except fishing. Today, the bank has 516 branches to its credit across the state. The progress is commendable," said MP Jayaprakash Hegde

He was addressing the gathering during the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Kundapur branch of Karnataka Bank held at R N Shetty Hall here on December 29.

Appreciating the efforts of the chairman, board of directors and employees of the Bank, J P Hegde said, "More than the amount of loan the Bank has issued or recovered, what is significant is its contribution towards the employment sector," Hegde said.

"It is difficult to recover loans. These days, branch managers have not been taking risks in transactions related to loans. Risk is sometimes necessary as it can help the poor in initial investments," he added.

"There are cases of fraud by some private banks to its consumers. Unfortunately, people still get trapped in their hands", he said advising the people to be careful before investing in any bank.

Chief guest A G Kodgi, chairman of the Third Financial Commission task force said, "Karnataka Bank has seen progress in all aspects. The service rendered by the Bank across the state is commendable. It has been recognized as a people-friendly Bank."

P Jayaram Bhat, managing director of the bank presided over the programme.

Today, Karnataka Bank has 516 branches across the state, 430 ATM centres, about 1 lac shareholders and more than 40 lac customers.

In addition, the Bank has won four national-level awards. It has plans to reach a figure of Rs 1 lac crore in business in the future.

On this occasion, senior customers of Bank's Kundapur branch Shantha Adiga, Seetharam Nakkathaya, Solaman Sons, Subraya Udupa, Narayan Shenoy and B M Hamza were felicitated.

On behalf of the customers, entrepreneur Seetharam Nakkathaya, Hattiyangadi Shree Siddivinayak Temple administrative head Ramachandra Bhat, Lions zilla former governor Jayakar Shetty, litterateur H V Narasimhamurthy gave feedback.

Bank director Dr H Rammohan, general managers N Upendra Prabhu, M V C Karanth and Jayaram Hande were present.

Mangalore regional office assistant managing director H C R Hande welcomed. General manager M S Mahabaleshwar Bhat delivered the keynote address. Chief manager Ramesh B M compered the programme, while Kundapur branch manager K Chandrashekar Navad proposed the vote of thanks.

    Karnataka Bank has a good track record of business. In the recent days, its share value has increased dramatically.

    Looks like the bank will out perform in year 2013.
