Mangalore: Robbers Intoxicate Two Friends in Train, Loot Rs 4.5 Lac

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore

Mangalore, Dec 31: In yet another case of train robbery by intoxication, two persons were robbed of their valuables after they were drugged by strangers on the Mumbai-Mangalore Matsyagandha Express.

The victims have been identified as Naveen C Shetty of Karinja in Bantwal and Chandan of Tharupathi in Kundapur. Valuables worth Rs 4.5 lac have been looted.

Naveen who runs a video games parlour in Thane near Mumbai along with his friend Chandan on December 26 boarded the Matsyagandha Express. Near Chipunkar, four other strangers got into their compartment. The unknown passengers then offered biscuits to the victims. Minutes after eating it, the duo felt drowsy and slept soundly. They regained consciousness when the train reached the final destination in Mangalore Central station on December 27. On waking up, they realized that their valuables had gone missing.

Two gold chains, four finger rings, bracelet, Rs 27,000 in cash and a mobile phone, altogether worth Rs 4.5 lac, were allegedly stolen by the strangers.

The victims who were severely ill when they reached Mangalore went home after undergoing treatment. Three days after they recovered, they registered a complaint at the Mangalore Railway Police Station, on Sunday December 30.

"The strangers who got into the compartment near Chipunkar had already eaten a few biscuits from the packet. Even after we refused, they forcibly made us eat them," said Naveen in his complaint.

The railway police have registered a complaint in this regard and handed over the case to Chipunkar railway police for further investigation.

I dont think policing can solve the problem fully given the volume of population and scarce resources. We are a developing nation and not developed nation. These thefts/petty crime etc are common in developing nations as compared to developed nations and we need to be responsible for our safety. I think the south asian and african countries are examples of this.

Dear all y we must blame govt. or authorities or ministers here? whose fault? Dont u listen in public bus stands or in railwaystations the announcements made? for whom these announcements? Inspite of this we take food from strangers? u people carry about 27000 cash and they cant afford to buy a biscuit of 27 rupees? what a shame? we read in news papers such stories. Still we fall prey to these robbers. Such people must learn lesson.

Passengers should be very very careful in trains and take uttermost care to avoid becoming friendly with strangers. These two gentlemen are businessmen and they should know what is happening in this world. They got carried away by the biscuits offered by strangers and it turned costly for them. Time and again we hear people being drugged by fellow passengers and looted.

I am totally confused about the other co-passengers of train compartment while they are looting valuable things even when they forced to eat such biscuits. Most of the peoples are selfish that is why these things are happened frequently. When something found not normal behavior with strangers people should unite and thrash them immediately in the spot itself then these things will not happen frequently. We can find such things from Indians only.

I have one question in my mind. The train is full due to the season and how no one noticed or alerted police that strangers forcing some one to eat biscuits? This whole process may have taken atleast 10 minutes and why this was unnoticed by co-passengers.

I told you many times. Don't fool people here with false information, just because you are a congress agent and you love them. 1 person has already been arrested in Soujanya's case and police hunting for more. In Delhi rape was carries out by 20 men. Police arrested 6 and hunting for more people.

Wake up guys wake up? Don't eat biscuits like small kids. Eat food served by railways? Several times it has been reminded that people should be careful while travelling in bus or trains. Some one has mentioned foolishly that it is the duty of UPA and railways. We are literate and it is our duty to take care of ourselves. Even some one travel any other country must be careful for their belongings. If any one has huge cash why travel by train, take flight my dear?.

Do you think few railway police do not have a clue on thieves? It is going on for years now. Are they sharing their loot to continue their business? I am sure police in India are trained to nab such vultures! High time top railway police provides train commuters an explanation!! Only thing is general public who are behind cow need to divert their energy towards such cause!!

Whole UPA team is busy looting, eating and sleeping. They have forgotten their duties.

When situation gets worsened silent PM, UPA Chairman, ministers visits hospital and say regret for victim's family. How long they will do this? Because of their incapability and irresponsibility so many innocents are victimized. Enough is enough. Now ACT or GET LOST.

It is the foolishness of the passengers they invited the troble.Common sence that in a long Journey especially in Train should not wear or show valuables and should not take any foods/drinks from the strangers. To prevent such, better to instal CC cameras in all trains.

Indians by nature are very hospitable, talkative, curious people, and make friends easily with other strangers (esp. when bored in a bus or train journey). So, when some stranger strikes a conversation with fellow Indian, and there is some degree of commonality in their discussions, then, when stranger cum new friend, offers sweets to bakra (targeted victim), bakra feels obligated to accept and eat and cannot say no.

Wearing gold jewelries and showcasing valuables while on long journey either RAIL or BUS could bring dangerous situation.Accepting hospitality from unknown persons are certainly foolish thing and inviting trouble.Such kind of robberies are common in Rail journey and passengers should caution themselves rather defending on police.
