Udupi: Bellevision Celebrates Decennial, 'Cute Kid' Prizes Presented

Udupi, Dec 31: Bellevision.com celebrated its tenth anniversary on December 28 at 4:15 pm at Lions Bhavan, Brahmagiri here, with the distribution of prizes to the winners of ‘Cute Kid Photo Contest' that was organized by the web portal to mark its decennial.

Most of the parents whose children had won the contest attended the function and collected the awards from the hands of dignitaries on the dais. There was great excitement among the parents and children as they collected the mementos, certificates and cash awards.

The decennial function was presided over by Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of the Udupi Diocese. Jayaprakash Hegde was the chief guest.

The guests of honour included Joswey Fernandes, Parish Priest of St Lawrence Church, Moodubelle, Sarvottam Shetty, a prominent leader in UAE, president of Karnataka Sangha Abu Dhabi who is also involved in various community,and is a proud recipient of Karnataka Rajyotsava Prashasthi; Walter D’Almeida, MD, Regal Furnishings and Storage Systems LLC and Walter Nandalike, editor in chief of Daijiworld.com. Sigfred D’Souza, editor of Bellevision.com was also on the dais.

The programme began with the welcome dance presented by the students of the Church Aided Higher Primary School and trained by Helen D’Souza, Sr Irene and Sr Royline. Following the welcome address by Alphonse Mendonca, the Team Leader of Bellevision, the Decennial cake was cut by those associated with Bellevision.com in the presence of the dignitaries on the dais.

The chief part of the function was the distribution of prizes to the winners of the 'Cute Kid Photo Contest' in two categories - 0-2 years and 2-5 years, which included first, second and third prizes, the highest votes registered and ten consolation prizes in each category amounting a total amount of Rs 1,25,000. The prizes to the Cute kids belonging to 0-2 years category were distributed by Walter D’Almeida and to 2-5 years category by Walter Nandalike. Jayaprakash hedge distributed mementos to the sponsors and guests.

Addressing the gathering, Jayaprakash Hegde pointed out the importance of the electronic media and lauded the contribution of Daijiworld.com as well as Bellevision.com and wished well to Belelvision.com on the occasion of the decennial celebration.

Fr Joswey Fernandes recalled the social work that has been done by Bellevision Association of the UAE especially in sponsoring economically backward students in all institutions of the parish. He also appreciated the work done by the website Bellevision.com in bringing closer the people of Belle and surrounding regions spread across the world.

Sarvottam Shetty said that he made it a point to attend the decennial function of Bellevision.com because of his close friendship with Alphonse Mendonca, Elias D’Souza and Sigfred D’Souza. Being a native of Belle, Sarvottam Shetty said that he was pleased to be present at the Decennial celebration of the website and said that Bellevision.com should cross many more landmarks in future as well.

Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief of Daijiworld.com lauded the work done by Jayaprakash Hegde in favour of the NRIs. Speaking about Bellevision.com he recalled the struggle that the founders of Bellevision.com, Elias D’Souza, Sigfred D’Souza, Ronald Saby D’Souza, Wilfred Menezes and others had to undergo, just as he did when he founded Daijiworld.com.

He had special praise for Elias D’Souza for his organizational skills and his meticulous planning and execution of the plan of any function. He further said that he never looked at Daijiworld and Bellevision as competitors but as co-travelers. He appreciated the path charted out by Bellevision.com in its unique way. He assured full support and wished well in the future endeavours of Bellevision.com.

In a gesture of appreciation of the service rendered by Dr Eugene D’Souza, media coordinator of Bellevision.com and presently the Principal of St Lawrence College, Moodubelle, the office bearers and members of Bellevision decided to felicitate him.

Following the citation read by Elias D’Souza, editor-in-chief of Bellevision.com the Bishop of Udupi Diocese, Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo along with other dignitaries honoured Dr Eugene D’Souza by placing shawl on his shoulders, placing ‘peta’ on his head, garlanding and offering tray of fruits, bouquet of flowers and the citation.

In his reply to the honour Dr Eugene D’Souza thanked Bellevision for giving him an opportunity to serve the web-site so that he could keep himself busy and active. He also recalled his entry into the web-journalism through Daijiworld.com and thanked Walter Nandalike for giving him ample space for writing articles on various subjects including history, politics, personalities and travelogues.

Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo in his message stressed upon the role of media in general and that of internet in particular. He pointed out that the print media and television media highlight negativism in society including crime of various nature. He said that the media should focus on positive aspects such as exemplary deeds of men and women which would inspire others. Speaking further he said that Bellevision.com has been doing a lot of good work and wished that it would continue doing better in future as well.

Sigfred D’Souza, Editor of Bellevision.com presented mementos to the dignitaries on the dais and also bouquets to the distinguished guests in the audience including Commodore Jerome Castelino, Dean of St Lawrence College, Moodubelle, Devdas Hebbar, former president of Udupi Taluk Panchayat, Ida Gibba D’Souza, member of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat, Jessy Pinto, Secretary of Konkan Overseas Returnees Welfare Association (KORWA). Sigfred also felicitated the reporters and photographers associated with Bellevision.com.

Following the vote of thanks by Henry Mendonca (HM Pernal), Editor-in-chief of 'Kittal.com' snacks were served to all those present.

It goes to the credit of the organizers of this function, especially Elias D’Souza and Alphonse Mendonca that the stage function that started at 4:15 pm went on with clock-hour precision and ended exactly at 5:50 pm as stipulated in the programme.

From 6 to 7 pm, the Nritya Niketan presented the cultural programme. The depiction of the Ten Incarnations (Dashavathara) in classical dance form was excellent.
