Mangalore, Jan 1: As the clock struck 12 and this part of the world moved into the New Year, the entire city rose up in a chorus of cheers amidst a burst of stunning display of fireworks.

The New Year was welcomed in the city with immense joy and revellry, as large crowds gathered in clubs, restaurants and in private homes and resorts and celebrated into the early hours of the morning.

The crowd, chiefly made of youngsters, danced into the early hours of the morning of Tuesday January 1. DJs ensured that the atmosphere remained electrifying with peppy music that had the crowd dancing to glory.

A vivid and eye-catching display of fireworks adorned the midnight skies throughout the city.

New Year celebration began solemnly at St Sebastian Church, Bendur at 8 pm with the Mass.

Wow, these pics indicate that Mangalore is free from Gundas. I am proud of all those people in these pics who took a lot of courage to celebrate this way in a beautiful but saddist city. Good going. Happy New Year to all.

Agreed , No moral police! But where the younger generation is going towards? girls are free to dance with anybody without knowing the state of mind of their partners!whether drunken, motivated for other illegal activities, etc etc. This freeness may lead to further advancements like spending time together in private and may go upto concensual sex! But unfotunately ,if they are cought in that act ,then the girl will say that she was raped ! Poor guy will be a scapegoat! Will not be able to prove his innocence! That is why the let us be in our limits . moral police or legal police will have to do nothing if we take care of ourselves!

Moral policing beating helpless girls like in morning midst. That also 40 gundas beating 5 to 6 girls. If they ever try to touch these youngsters, things would have been different.

    Happy New Year to Everyone.
A clear message to age-old traditionalists who wanted youngsters not to celebrate for fear of rapes.
Youngsters showed they are mature & know their responsibilities, their limits & aspirations.
Our younger generation can take our Nation forward without any prejudices.
