Mangalore, Jan 2: Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) health inspectors carried out raids on various places located adjacent to Karangalpady market here on Tuesday January 1.

It is learnt that plastics weighing 19.55 kg were seized from 8 places including hotels, vegetable shops, flower stalls, and so on.

A total of Rs 600 was collected as fine from violators.

The officials then went to the ongoing Karavali Utsav and raided the stalls.

The raids were carried out under the directions of MCC commissioner Dr Harish Kumar, and supervision of senior health inspector Bharath Kumar, who recently joined the team after being suspended last year on allegations of bribery.

Health inspectors Sushanth, Yashwanth, Poovappa, Basavaraj, Karunakar, environment engineer Manjunath Shetty were part of the raiding team

It is also said that five teams have been set up for carrying out similar raids throughout the city.

It may be recalled a few days ago, Dr Harish Kumar had warned during a press meet that MCC would begin its raids again in order to ensure total ban on plastics.

Appreciate the work that is being carried out by MCC Health Inspectors. Mr. Bharat Kumar, has i know he is a very good officer. since he had been involved in raids past... due to that he was made to take bribe, this is a shame act by the Mr. Ashley who did it for others traders benefit. ou should go thru' the background of Mr. Bharath kumar. I had visited his quarters once, u should also see it. if he is taking bribe then he would have constructed houses, bought cars, bikes and make property for him r to their family members. but its totally different situation. since he is bold and stright forward in doing work, he might have cleared from lokayuktha and back to his work. if he would have taken bribe he would have never be in the front for any raids from MCC. Hats off Mr. Bharath Kumar, Keep it up.

    @ Mr. Krishna & Mr.Vikas,

The phrase he was made to take bribe is some of the people at MCC are against him coz he was staying forward to do any work. Those people have made him to take bribe, he has already mentioned their name to the police at the time of enquiry. Those people needs to be punished, who make such good officer to involve in such culprit act.

This is a good step towards the clean mangalore drive.
But i want to ask our corporator of kankanady about the roads going to the veg and fish market when he want to repair it. Many people coming by scooter with their family met accident because of the road condition. From 3 weeks about 3 or 4 trucks of stones used in the tar road is unlaoded. But still nobody came to do any repair there. I can guess more than 2000 people comes there per day for purchasing of daily used items and they face problem when they come by a scooter or even by car.
i hope the concerned department and the mayor will see this matter do the needfull.

In Karnataka we are progressing backwards -
Hence do not worry how you are going take fish home - in a few days time you will learn from BJP this -
    coconut palms have many leaves.
Take the leaves as many as you require to the market. Fisherwomen know how to hook the fish onto those coco leaves.
take the leaves\fish and swing along home -
    (konkani word - madachyo chuttyo)

Indian Government is a big fool… very back in technology. These days you don’t require banning plastics if the manufacturer uses the latest technology in manufacturing in the plastics. The plastic manufactured with latest technology will be decomposed within 2 years. Like before it does not need 400 years to decompose the plastic. Why Govt. can’t get the latest technology to India. Why they are troubling the common and middle class business men? In all the other foreign countries these technology is implemented. India is too back today.

HI Bharat Kumar May have been taken Back from his recent suspension, to coach the other inspectors art of taking bribes. After getting caught, he may have mastered that art.
Why these officials do not raid the sources of these bags - manufacturers\distributers\suppliers instead of raiding these small shops where they can get 300 to 500 gm of plastic bags.
This is just to harass these small shops to squeeze out bribes from them. Scent is of BJP all along the trail!!!!!

Whatever the move to make our Mangalore clean and safe is commandable. I take this opportunity to request Health Officers to instruct all the restaurants and bakeries in and around Mangalore to use hand gloves while serving customers. I saw in one of the bakeries at Balamatta circle, sales girls finger had a bandage and we can see blood on her finger, she was picking sweets by the same hand. Even in restaurants suppliers go to toilet and without washing hand serve food to their customer. It is really un hygenic way of serving food.
