Mangalore, Jan 3: Medical students from across colleges under Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, on Wednesday January 2 showed their solidarity with a candlelight protest
condemning the brutal gang-rape of a 23-year-old in Delhi which resulted in her death.

The protest was organized under the leadership of Abhilash PV, Senate member of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science at Nehru Maidan here on Wednesday.

The students lit candles as part of the protest. They observed a moment of silence for the Delhi rape victim and prayed for all victims of crime against women.

"It is not enough if India provides education facilities, it should also maintain its culture by stopping violence against women," said Abhilash, "Such crimes will continue if strict action is not taken in the matter. It poses a threat to students coming from other states."

He also demanded that the government brings about strict rape laws.

As many as 800 students from different medical colleges participated in the protest.

    Dear Patric Jeppu....
About Sounjanya's case too-Yes very curious-Why is nobody talking about it now? There are many cases of girls raped, murdered there (in that area)but justice does not seem to be forthcoming. Has to do with the place I suppose.Let me comfort you in only one way my friend and many others. In that place and others where justice does not seem to be dispensed is the most 'Powerful Justice Dispenser' of all times. When his 'wrath' unleashes all these 'happy go lucky brats and their influential parents' will have it-You and I may not be knowing , but then the perpetrators of these crimes will definitely know! You be rest assured-'Kondavage Kole Tapadu'....

Good gesture of condolences and solidarity and expressing consolation to the family members of Damini. Thanks to all the participants.
To Those who blame the political parties and social system, and link different meanings to this incident I have a question: "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? HOW HAVE YOU REACTED TO THIS?". Any protest? or only stupid comments? or Advice? or Visit to the deceased family?
Please stop stupid comments, blaming and advice.
Awake and start creating awareness to those around you.... on India's dirty system and to change the system. or
Who knows Yesterday Damini, today my family members and tomorrow your family members........

Wake up Indians….. Please demand for fast track court/Justice. Please revolt against the cases dragging for years and Bails. ( If anyone caught in any case i.e. corruption/Rape/Murder etc our lawyers are ready with bail before the culprits go to jails). Our above cases are dragged for years i.e. even few generations. Please demand the above from our political parties.

We people are encashing the tragic incidents of others to celebrate our existence/position in public which will no way help anybody. We are experts in creating false sympathy conveniently forgetting/ignoring more such horrors in our own dist. This is nothing but advertisiment of tragedy.Incidently our unscrupilous politicians are also prone to such habits for their own gain.

    You are right STAN,Dubai.
All the rape cases need to be brought in the media, and the culprits are must be punished severely like Islamic Sharia law, that is why the rape cases are very rare and much controlled in the countries where the Sharia law is strictly practiced. When country like France etc, gone for banning the 'PARDA', We also tend to support this movement, but after seeing the molesting & rape cases are increasing, the islamic system of parda is putting us to think why this religion has imposed parda to their women.

There is no double thought in condemning the rape of Delhi Medical Student. Criminals should be hanged in front of public.
But am feeling very sad about our people. After the Rape of Damini in Delhi all people are up in hand to protest against the rape. In Mangalore also our students belongs to some prestigious institution's and organization already showed their anger against Delhi rape case.
Few months before one poor girl from Dharmastala brutally raped and murdered, only resident of Dharmastala protested against this incident. Other than no female students of any college's of Mangalore and other parts of country came forward to protest against this incident. No large number of people especially from rich organizations and institutions came forward to make Sowjanya rape and murder case a National issue. This is our problem. No one care about the rape and murder of poor girls from the villages. So many Damini's are everyday get raped by criminals, no one is there to hear their pain. Very sad.

Just burning candles is not sufficient. We have to convert these candles into weapons. We also have to convert the light on the candle (that produces heat) into stricter and stringent laws. The law should have a burning and fear effect.
