Yeddyurappa Defers to Jan 15 Bid to Topple BJP Government

Bangalore, Jan 4 (IANS): Contrary to his earlier assertions of a decisive move Friday to pull down the BJP government in Karnataka, the party's former leader B.S. Yeddyurappa deferred the plan to Jan 15.

"We will take a final decision Jan 15 as it is an auspicious day," Yeddyurappa told reporters after the first meeting of the working committee of his new party, the Karnataka Janata Party (KJP).

The Bharatiya Janata Party's first chief minister in Karnataka, he was forced out of office July 2011 over mining bribery charges, and formed the KJP after quitting BJP Nov 30. He took over as KJP president Dec 9.

Jan 15 is considered auspicious by many as the period of "Uttarayana" (Sun's journey to north) starts after "Makar Sankranti" (harvest festival) Jan 14.

Yeddyurappa, however, indicated that he was determined to make allout efforts to prevent Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar from presenting the state budget in February, ahead of the assembly polls due in May.

"Myself and everyone in the working committee is opposed to budget presentation by Shettar as he has lost majority," he said.

"I do not think he will be able to present the budget," Yeddyurappa said.

Yeddyurappa claimed that about 15 BJP assembly members, out of 118 in the 225-member assembly, attended Friday's KJP working committee meeting, which indicated that Shettar has no majority in the house.

He said all these BJP legislators were ready to quit the assembly and the BJP "right now but we asked them not to do so as we want to hold more consultations with all other BJP legislators supporting me on appropriate action and appropriate time for it".

Yeddyurappa said that 40 to 50 BJP assembly members, including several ministers, were supporting him and "we will talk to them and take a final decision (on toppling the Shettar ministry) Jan 15."

The 15 BJP assembly members had also shared the dais with Yeddyurappa at a public meeting Dec 9 when he took over as the chief of the KJP, which he formed soon after quitting the BJP.

The BJP has not taken action against them for fear of Shettar ministry falling. state BJP chief K.S. Eshwarappa, however, says disciplinary action has been deferred as at least two of them have informed him that they would stay back with the BJP.

The state BJP coordination committee comprising, among others, Shettar, Eshwarappa, and party general secretary and Bangalore South Lok Sabha member H.N. Ananth Kumar is meeting here Saturday to take stock of the situation in the light of Friday's KJP decision.

Honestly some people like Dinesha and Nagesha appear to be paid 'Internet Kar Sevaks' who keep on parroting the same lines like 'Madam Italy', 'Yeddi Chaddi', 'BJP ki Jai' etc.

To be realistic, the chances of BJP retaining power in 2013 are slim as they have failed to provide efficient and good administration unlike their Gujarat counterparts.

If they are under the impression that people will vote again for BJP they are wrong in the long run no one will vote just for religion but for DEVELOPMENT.

Now, the only development we have seen in the last 5 years is the development of their bank balance.

With a hopeless government like this.... Karnataka is a 'GONE CASE'!

What is wrong with 'bar dancer'? Do you have a problem with the bar or with the dancing? All north indian men like to throw money on dancing girls after the men have had a few drinks. Even in earlier times indian women used to dance in kings courts, when kings and his courtiers used to have wine/som/liquor etc. Accept it. This is also a part of ancient indian/persian/asian culture and not 'italian culture' as you may wish to think.

Yes Jan 15 is a auspicious day, as the final payment of crores of money will be done to their respective swiss bank accounts or in black money somewhere else.
BJP must have said we will complete the payments by Jan 15 and hence the deadline extention.

It is not my culture, it is congress culture.

A BAR DANCER of Italy is made to rule this country.

KJP's birth is AKRAMA. It is not for the welfare of the people. It is born with bad intention of avoiding CBI arrest and to support congress in the election.

    So I justify my comments.

Congress, JDS,and KJP's one point program under the circumstances is to get away the chance of submitting last 'populous'Budget of BJP Govt! The more days BJP stays in power the less popularity for KJP in particular. On one hand KJP don't want the blame of topple of BJP govt for serious political reasons and other and important side,KJP do not want BJP's final budget to get passed in the ASSEMBLY!Apart from that EC is quietly doing it's work to election date(Election code of Conduct) and thereby may deny right to present Budget.@ this moment nothing will change by toppling ailing Govt but yeah,BJP may loose golden opportunity to introduce populous budget to get max support from voters.Coming days are indeed election mood of Karnataka even if this govt continue till further notice.

BSYs deadlines are mere headlines. BSY is already a B-team of congress and If he doesnt allow Shettar to present budget then Lingayath vote bank would teach BSY a lesson. Anyway, 2013 would see a hung assembly and BJP would play a major role in Govt formation and BJP would combine with JDS and BSR to form next govt.
