Mangalore, Jan 4: "The BJP party came to power in 2008 in the name of development and people's welfare, but since then their leaders have not been able to solve their own internal conflicts. Their administration has pushed the common man to sufferings,

He spoke after inaugurating a convention of JD(S) party workers at Asaigoli here on Friday January 4.

"Presently the BJP is divided into three parties - BSR Congress which emerged out of the mining issue and Lokayukta cases; secondly Yeddyurappa’s KJP party, which recently took its birth and the one that is ruling. In the history of Karnataka’s politics the state has never seen such haphazard administration. People are fed up with BJP," he said.

He also added, "BJP came to power in the name of women welfare, but what have they done to improve the status of women in this state?"

"When I was in a village stay programme as chief minister in Mudoola, a poor girl came to me with her problems. She was the daughter of a Devadasi but well educated. She pleaded to me for help, and I provided her the work of an assistant in chief minister’s office and told her to study the problems of other poor people. But Yeddyurappa, after he became the chief minister, dismissed that girl from the office. This was his contribution to women," he said.

"The tax paid by 6 crore people is being misused by the BJP government. Today 9 lac families are not getting proper facilities. Even the Bhagalakshmi Yojana was my concept but now Yeddurrappa says that it was his achievement. Hence I request you try and understand, and choose the right party which works for the betterment of the people," he added.

"In the coastal area BJP and Congress parties dominated and ruled by breaking the unity of people. During their regime the coastal region witnessed much communal violence. The district has experienced the pain of moral policing, vandalizing of sacred institutions etc. There are so many problems like malnutrition and poverty which need attention. Religion is not really important to politicians," Kumaraswamy said.

"The Congress government by supporting FDI has rolled the red carpet to foreign investors. Once again the British East India Company will loot us in the name of FDI," he said.

Promises Galore

Shifting his attention to the forthcoming elections, he said, "Here, I am not compelling you to vote for my party but just helping you analyze what BJP and Congress have given you even after 65 years of Indian Independence. I will try to solve drinking water problems in particular areas and legally fight to get you the title deeds to 5 cents."

"I will also assure you that if my party comes to power I will provide Rs 2,500 as monthly pension to differently-abled people, Rs 5,000 to pregnant women for check-ups and nutritious food, and employment opportunities to endosulfan victims and to unemployed youth who are being misused in different ways in this region," he promised.

Amarnath Shetty, Nagaraj Shetty, MB Sadhashiva, Shakeel Ahammed, Mohammed Kunni Vitla, Vasanth Salian, Ranjith Mallya, MG Hegde, Susheel Norahana, Udaya Kumar, Jayalakshmi Hegde, Gangadhar Ullal, Sachin Sajeepa, Basheer were present on the occasion.

Press Meet

Prior to the convention, H D Kumaraswamy addressed a press meet and said that BJP government failed to rule efficiently, and people are fed up with BJP's internal conflicts.

"On the one hand Yeddyurappa is hogging the limelight by giving deadlines to the government. He is not allowing BJP government to function normally nor taking back his support, instead he is allotting deadline, which is merely for publicity. The government should work for people and solve their problems," he said.

"Even the opposition party has failed to perform its duty. Congress party proved that they have awakened from sleep only now, with their ‘Pada Yatra’ protest walk from Bellary to Tungabhadra. Earlier too they observed a protest walk against mining barons, but later they went to sleep. Now they have woken up again and are holding another ‘Pada Yatra’.

"The state has also failed to curb cases of rape in the state. A major incident of rape occurred in the chief minister’s own district. It is the failure of the administrative system of the state," he said.

Amarnath Shetty, Nagaraj Shetty, MB Sadhashiva, Shakeel Ahmed, Mohammed Kunni Vitla, Vasanth Salian, Ranjith Mallya and M G Hegde were present.
