Murder Charges Added in Case of Delhi Student's Mysterious Death

New Delhi, Jan 4 (IANS): Four months after a 14-year-old teenager was found dead under mysterious circumstances here in an apartment, Delhi Police Friday added charges of murder in the case on the directions of a court.

The incident was reported from Skylark Apartments in Dwarka's Sector 6 in west Delhi.

Delhi Police have now registered a case under Sections 302 (murder), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 201 (disappearance of evidence) against the unknown persons. Earlier, police suspected it to be a case of suicide.

In the First Information Report (FIR), police have named one of the residents of the apartments as a suspect in the case.

The registration of murder case came after the direction of a city court.

On Sep 5, 2012, Vaibhav Kumar, a class 9 student of Bal Bharati School, went for tuition in the evening and did not return home till late night.

Vaibhav's body was then spotted inside the complex, a few meters away from the main gate around 10.30 p.m. After the incident, the victim's family alleged that it was a case of murder but police was treating it like a suicide case.

"The CCTV footage of the complex footage showed that the boy had returned to the society 6.50 p.m. and took an elevator. The CCTV footage of the complex has recorded the boy falling off the terrace at 10.08.52 p.m.," said an investigating officer.

Unhappy with the investigation of Delhi police, the victim's family then filed a petition in a court seeking directions to the police for registration of murder case.

Victim's father Vijendra Kumar said that the police team did not search the premises of the society properly when they reached there following the incident.

When the victim's family searched on their own they found blood stains on 4th, 5th and 7th floors and also inside the flat of the suspect.

Victim's father alleged that police did not take photographs of the blood stains and did not interrogate the residents of the flat in which the blood stains were found.
