Intense Cold Continues in Agra

Sunday's maximum temperature in the Taj city was 8.2 degrees Celsius, 14 degrees below normal, forcing people to remain mostly indoors.

The number of tourists arriving in the city also fell sharply owing to the cold weather and most of the city markets bore deserted look Sunday. There were not enough passengers in the newly-introduced city buses on the otherwise busy MG road.

Some long-distance buses could not operate due to poor visibility, Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) officials here said.

"This was one of the coldest nights I have ever experienced," said an old timer Surendra Sharma.

Officials at the Agra Cantt railway station said that more than 50 trains were running late by several hours.
