Bangalore: Former DGP Accused of Dowry Harassment

Bangalore, Jan 7 (DHNS): Former Director General of Police Dr D V Guruprasad has been accused of dowry harassment in a complaint lodged by his daughter-in-law, Savitha Shashi, with Seshadripuram police.

Shashi married Guruprasad's son Sumukh, a software engineer, in 2010. The couple had been living in Belgium, until Shashi returned to India early 2012. Since then they have been living separately, police sources said.

In her complaint, Shashi alleged that her husband Sumukh and his family, particularly Guruprasad, had been harassing her for a dowry of Rs 20 lakh, to build a house on a site he owns in JP Nagar. She claimed that this was the sole reason for her separation from her husband while in Belgium and, her return to India.

She has named Sumukh, Guruprasad, mother-in-law Swarna Guruprasad and sister-in-law Apoorva in the complaint.

Seshadripuram police have registered a case and are investigating.

Police sources said that they have called both the parties for questioning, as part of a formal inquiry. However, police investigations revealed that Sumukh has sought a divorce and the matter is pending in family court. Police sources added that the complaint is “vague” and points to a possible misuse of the law to settle marital disputes.

“We are investigating with an open mind. Guruprasad has not been questioned yet, but it will be done in due course,” said T Suneel Kumar, Additional Commissioner (Law and Order).

It is quite a messy situation but if you view it with a realistic picture especially the allegations kind of sound kiddish. Now lets do some mathematics If Dr GuruPrasad has his own site, the sq ft construction cost is around 1400 (Barewalls) - 1800 (Turnkey) give or take 100 i am talking real good quality materials which would translate to 1400 sq ft with bare walls or 1111 sq ft with everything. Do you think her claim holds water here?? nope. Frivolous claim. QED

In marital discord, for outsiders, even to law enforcement, it is very difficult to find the real truth.
Both try and act to prove they are right.
But there is a clear message failed Marriage.
Law can not not hold the couple together and produce good children.
    Only good understanding can.

The Dowry harassment law is being misused alot by Women in India. Even if the husbands family members are living in Antartica , then can be made parties to this crime, even if they are sincerely not involved. There should be a strict punishment for the woman ( with 10 years jail term ) who unnecessarily involves the husbands relatives.

Shame on this woman. Its the hightime , false cases equally be punished. I remember a guy recited tripple talaq , once his wife made false complaint. When his notorious wife reached station to file a complaint , she is no more a 'wife' and FIR was not lodged as talaq has been already recited 3 times with witness.

Not sure about the nature of the complaint here or if the accused is guilty or not only proper investigation will find out, but two acts in India, one is Dowry & other is POA, of the SC/ST (Prevention of atrocities) act is often being miss used by the accuser to settle score with the accused as the reservation law strongly defends & is one-sided in most of the cases.
