Dubai, Jan 9 : Yakshakalavrunda, an association of like-minded art lovers are all set to host a historic Badagutittu Yakshagana event, for the first time in Dubai. The event is expected to entertain not only Kannadigas, but Indian art lovers from around the UAE.

A 10-member team of Badagutittu artistes of Poornachandra Yakshakala Pratisthana, Kumbashi (Kundapur), who are professionals in this form and who have presented several shows in India and abroad, will present Yakshagana 'Madhura Mahindra' on February 1 at Shiekh Rashid Auditorium, Indian High school, Karama. The event will start at 5 pm.

Yakshagana, a famous traditional theatre art form popular in the coastal and Malendu regions in particular and whole of India in general, is a unique art form that encompasses glittering and eye cathing rich costumes, music, dance, acting and extempory dialogues during the performance.

"The event focuses on bringing this unique and famous art form to the people of Karnataka who have been living in the UAE for a long time and missing the cultural and entertainment experience of this rich and dynamic theatre art. Also, our next generation may totally lose touch with the great and rich traditional art form which our ancestors breathed and made it a part of every household during their era. Our aim is to carry forward this culture which we inherited from them to our next generation, so that they can pass on our culture and heritage to their children," says B K Padmaraj Yekkar, president of newly-formed Yakshakalavrunda.

"Forming a new association like Yakshankalavranda was for the sole purpose of promoting Badagutittu Yakshagana in this part of the world, and not for competing with any other organization," he clarified.
