Mangalore: Auto Driver Paraded to Police Station for Molesting Minor Girl

Mangalore: Auto Driver Paraded to Police Station for Molesting Minor Girl

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (VM)

Mangalore, Jan 9: The auto rickshaw drivers of Suratkal area on Wednesday January 9 paraded one of their fellow drivers all the way to the police station for reportedly molesting a minor girl.

The auto driver identified as Imam (45) allegedly molested a minor girl, aged 11, studying in class four.

The incident took place on Tuesday January 8 when the girl was on her way back from school in the auto driven by Imam. Sources said that the accused physically abused the minor.

The incident came to light after the girl complained to her parents about the indecent behaviour of the auto driver. The girl's father reported the same to Umesh, president of Suratkal auto rickshaw drivers' union.

Angered by the incident, nearly 350 autorickshaw drivers under the leadership of Umesh gathered near Suratkal Junction on Wednesday January 9. They nabbed Imam, stripped off his shirt and paraded him till Suratkal police station. The drivers then handed over the accused to police and also demanded strict action including cancellation of his licence.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Umesh said that the incident has affected other rickshaw drivers as well and bought shame to the locality. "In order to stop such disgraceful incidents especially in Suratkal and other areas, we rickshaw drivers gathered together and handed over the accused to the police," he said.

Sources said that Imam had been involved in similar acts earlier too.

A case has been registered in the Suratkal police station.

Dear Mr. Vicky Dubai, PLeasse do not refer to your school text books for the actual history, How many people were required to get rid of approximately 2000 ( yes Two thousand) British persons from India, and ask your grand parents about the safety and security during the pre independence time
even I too was like you Naive to think what ever was taught was right, It was the Rich Indians who wanted the British out so they can control the people and rule it, as they were always doing even during the Moguls who ruled us for 500 years most of the Ministers were always Indians as was even during the 175 years rule of British in India, be thankful for them or else even today you and I would have been a bonded slaves to some Indian Landlord.
And If the caretaker of my house is not capable of discharging his duties in honesty Integrity, and in all sincerity I would not mind outsourcing it.
And very well know how manipulative children are , and I know instances where children have separated their parents for their own gains!!

I heard of an incident that happend to my friends friend. She had gone to her little son to school by auto. The Auto driver stopped the vehicle in an isolated place and demanded money else he will touch her.. I could not even imagine this can happen to anybody. She just gave the money and saved herself..

I condemn the accused if this report is true. However if the person accused was not minority we might see a different approach by the public in handling such situation. These days people beat others without verifying the evidences. Anyone can accuse anybody and punished immediately without verifying the evidences. If Muslims have paraded a non-Muslim semi-naked, then everyone would say "do not take law into own hands". Double Standard! In India, non-Hindus are treated as second class citizen and majority group can suppress them anytime!

@ Ethan Avedhan , florida , mangalore. I salute your comments. You wrote real and bang on target. Its call for indians to be gender fair and stop being patriarchal towards men. No wonder comment came from far away!. One of reasons of rising rape cases are due to more fake compaints and peaple using IPC sections to avenge personnel score. And also its hyppocracy that peaple think 11 yr old girl as 'kid' , but in fact she does and know lot of things in life. And its suprising that peaple actions would have been different , if school boy was involved . They ignored it as normal affair. I know peaple can hate for my comments , but its a fact.

In my opinion we Indians were never ever were really matured enough to get independence that too be a Democratic country, where everyone gets their rights to voice their opinions as well as to be protected , but by the looks of it Indians have no patience, and every one wants his own way which is to go back centuries were village council used to punish persons according to their own set laws and rules, Then why don't Indians just fight to abolish the IPC sections and go back to your village council and bolly/sandal/tolly wood filmy hero's for justice , As per any Democratic country each and every citizen shall be entitled to fair trial and justice but all the comments in Daiji world only reflects the immature comments from people who are not fit to be in a democratic society!!please immigrate to Saudi Arabia or such countries were barbaric punishment is metted out in public even then there is no dearth of crimes in those countries and most likely many will be falsely accused and innocent is punished , how is that we are so gender biased that we automatically assume that Women speak only truth and it is proven by research and surveys that women lie much more than men and it is clearly evident that they are found misusing the sympathy of "Men" and IPC sections everywhere,on one hand they ask to be equal with men on the other they need all the privileges given by the society ,I for one will stand for Gender unbiased view as is most of the countries Law!!People be matured and be Unbiased towards sexes, treat everyone the same !!

Girls comment cannot be accepted on face value , need evidence. 11 year old girl now a days know lot of things , so there can be a possibility mutual affair !. last , it can be a genuine case , where driver realy forced girl without her consent. In this case , we have law enforcement agencies , public justice is un acceptable. Infact all the richshaw walas who thrashed this woman , should be booked for hooliganism

You have right to your opinion as I have mine.
In the world, we have seen varieties of laws & enforcements, viz.
    1. Western Countries,
    2. Islamic forward Countries
    3. Islamic backward Countries
    4. China & Communist Countries, etc
On analyzing their laws, I have derived my opinion.
But one thing I accept, harsh people need harsh laws but harsh laws make people harsh!
    That is the bitter truth!

I do not see anything wrong in what the rickshaw union leader and his team members did. This will only arouse scare among others and the public. By complaining to the union leader, the culprit was nabbed the following day, if it was the police, a complaint would be registered and then so on and so on.

The culprit was stripped of his shirt and paraded, but not beaten. Let the viewers know that they are not in favour of such incidents.

A large amount of children are transported through autos and thus parents bestow their confidence in auto drivers who take the kids to & fro.

I am totally in favour for the culprit to be punished for his crime BUT NOT THIS WAY. It has to be by law. Police needs to follow rules themselves. NO ONE SHOULD TAKE LAW IN THEIR OWN HANDS. What if an innocent is falsely accused? What if the saffron brigade is involved? Friends let us not think emotionally but logically. We need to follow rules. Rules are there for a reason.

Dear readers, please do not encourage goonda raaj. If the accused is guilty, certainly he deserves the harshest punishment. However, it should be meted through right channel. If Auto drivers can search for the accused, why could not it be done through police ? Why did not they complain to police ? We have heard only one side and not heard anything from the accused. Do not jump to conclusion with one side story. Again, if he is guilty, he should be punished very harshly.

Just wait and see how these molesters are going to treat by public all over the India. Situations are not like before, Social media is powerful than any media now and will plays major role in such incidents, our new generation has more sense of decision making and analysing than what you and me had in our collage days.

Well Said Agnello, Mangalore/Muscat. While I condemn the act of Imam and advocate appropriate punishment under the law, I do not approve the way the things handled by Mr. Umesh and his mob. Dear Daiji readers, please do not encourage mob justice for any thing on any day. Else we all will suffer at the hands of some unruly mob with vested interests. If our Justice system is delayed let us ask for the reforms but NEVER think of giving power to IDIOTs (courtesy: Markandey Katju) of India.

These days hearing thru media ONLY rape rape rape in every part of India. Now it's spreading like a plague.
If the concerned departments/authorities implement a very strict punishment then such activities are might be reduced.
    Welldone Mr. Umesh.

Mr.Jagan..I respect your comment, but don't agree with it fully. Yes..Public don't have right strip or attack accused..But how long public can wait..? Not only people of Suratkal lost patience, entire India lost patience.Every day rape on minor girls, gang rape and murder..People are fed up.Did our Government try to stop it ? or at atleast minimize it by using strict law ? The answer is ..No..So,public will take law in their hands..Today,Suratkal,Tomorrow Bhopal,Day after Imphal..Hope Mr.Moun Mohan Singh will break his Mouna Vratha soon & impliment tough law.

I congratulate Suratkal people and Auto Union for bringing FAST TRACK COURT (Unofficial).

These type of incidents were happening all the time in our Udupi city but no one was raising their voice against that. School girls remain quite, ladies afraid of shame. But, after the Delhi gang rape incident woman started raising their voices.

I strongly condemn Imamam's act and he deserves this punishment. Appreciate Umesh's initiative to teach him a lesson by exposing imam to public. Sorry to say there are many Imams in the Rikshaw freternity and hope our friend Umesh will apply same yardstick to penalize the wrong doers in future.

The right thing would be for Umesh to have taken the girls father to the police to file FIR and put pressure on them to do quick investigation.

The molesters and rapists should be taken on an underwear parade so that they should feel the shame of their act and the public should get a glance of such perverts within our society.
Sexual activity normally results in sexual arousal and physiological changes in the aroused person. Some of them are pronounced while others are more subtle. Sexual libido in a person is slowly built and reaches a point of No-Return. There are many factors to it, including the flirting and foreplay factor that is mating and display behavior e.g. teasing behaviour, eye to eye mischief movement, sms massages, indecent show-off attire, non-veg jokes/comments etc. Sexuality is an animal instinct and the venerable girl/women should become extra cautious during such situation. They should travel in group, inform the loved ones before leaving a place and after reaching the destination and make this a habit. Avoid eye to eye contact with pervert opposite sex avoid travelling alone in any lonely streets. Avoid late night shows, if not in group. Avoid alcohol while partying and always have girl-friends as stand-by while partying, even with the boy friend, if alcohol/drug is involved. Remember, alcohol and drugs can bring the animal instinct in a man and they will attract towards your body than the soul, after all they are human being. Keep in mind that it is up to you to avoid trouble in drunken situation.
The women whistle blower should play a major role and identify the sexual perverts in your surroundings. You should share this with your friends and also inform it to the police so that the police will have these perverts under their radar.
Please remember, SEX THRILLS BUT KILLS.

I really feel how his family (parents /wife and children) will face this society... If there would a case of suicide by the family for the public disgrace that has been done to him..who is responsible. I feel Public should not take law in their hand... The public have right to hand him over to police but not strip him...Who handles the law... public or police.

Fantastic job, weldone. Should be kept in jail for at least a month. Should keep Rs.10,000/- as security deposit. He should educate others now. He is married man, why do such wrong things? It will bring a bad name to ther auto ricksaw employees. All should learn from these drivers, if some body does wrong show to all people and then give to police. Respect all and learn morality. All should follow Gandhiji's three monkey ststements. If any body has no work at just keep on saying prayers by closing the eyes.
