Udupi: Gopal Poojary Resigns as Cong Dist President, to Contest from Byndoor

Udupi, Jan 11: The regional politicians seem to be steadily switching on to election mode. Stating clearly his intention to contest from Byndoor constituency in the upcoming assembly elections, Gopal Poojary has announced his resignation from the post of Congress Udupi district president.

Speaking to daijiworld Gopal Poojary said that he took the decision after holding discussions with Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes.

"The party does not allow a person to hold two posts simultaneously. Oscar Fernandes guided me in the matter and hence I have given my resignation as per his advice," he said.

"As the district president, I have to be in control of five constituencies, which is a difficult task. It was my desire to contest from Byndoor constituency and I am the only person from Congress who would be nominated from here. I am getting ready for the elections, and for campaigning, I need to be free from the political responsibilities of district president. Thereby, I took the decision last week," he said.

"I will continue to be district president till my resignation is accepted by the party high command. It should happen within a week," he said, adding that he has handed over his resignation papers to KPCC president Dr Parameshwar.

    we need sum good leader in Congress,Like JP Hegde, for Byndoor best candidate is Khambadakone Prakash Shetty Kalmakki,he is the clear winner & very much mingle with people

    You are saying about Gopal poojari non corrupt and people friendly, then why he is Incapable politician?.You want a leader like Yeddi to loot whole Karnataka?
    even Gopal Poojari is giving jobs to many peoples in New Shanthi Sagar means ie also good for the peoples.always your views are against good Human beings.

    This time Mr.Gopal Pojary have very good chance of wining Byndoor seat,present MLA,laximinarayan doen't known weather he is BJP or KJP,this uncertainty will give pojary a chance.

    Incapable politician. He was 3 time MLA for around 11 years. But nothing good he did. Byndoor city does not even has a bus stand, fish market, roads etc. But if an ordinary person invites him for marriage, he will be there on time. This is his capability.

    Many people from Byndoor-Kundapur works in his NEW SHANTHI SAGAR GROUP of hotels in Bangalore. This is advantage for him.

    He is non corrupt and people friendly. But he does not know to speak fluently.

    One reason for resigning is latest ZP/TP election result.
