Udupi, Jan 12: Normally, professional and amatuer artistes travel from India to foreign lands to showcase their talents through stage plays, musical nites, or magic shows. But here, a complete troupe of amateur theatre artistes from Dubai for the first time is staging a popular Konkani play 'Aami Nathlyaa Vellar' at Udupi on India's Replublic Day, Saturday, January 26 at 4 pm, in Poorna Prajna Collge (PPC) Auditorium.

Daiji Dubai, an association of Konkani writers in the UAE, will be staging this play to mark its 14th anniversary. The play was presented in Dubai during April 2012 to a full house, and proved to be one of the superhit Konkani plays staged in UAE.

The play 'Aami Nathlyaa Vellar' has been translated by Richard Pereira, from Ramanada Choorya's Kannada play 'Naavilladaga'. The original play is in Marathi, written by Madhsudhan Kalelkar, based on a true story of a navy commandar and his wife during the 1960s.

Dayan D'Souza, well-known actor-writer-director will direct this play and also play a key role.

This is for the frst time that Daiji Dubai Writers' Forum is organising its anniversary event outside Dubai.

"We want to support the newly erected Udupi diocese in our region, by promoting Konkani language and art to show our solidarity," says Stany Nirude, main co-ordinator of Daiji Dubai Writers' Forum.

Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi will be chief guest for the event. Jayaprakash Hegde, MP, Udupi - Chikmagalur Loksabha constituency, and NRE entrepreneur and philanthropist, Ronald Colaco will be guests of honour.

The 14th Daiji Dubai Annual Literary Award will be presented to Dr Edward Nazareth during the event.

A collection of Konkani short stories published by Daiji Publication will be released on the occasion. The book consists of 14 short stories written by all 14 Daiji Dubai annual award winners.

Those present at the venue will be given snacks free of cost and there will be attractive cash prizes up for grabs in raffle draw.

Ami Nathlya velar had a record breaking show here in Dubai and sure of breaking records in UDUPI. The story, direction and acting is just awesome and outstanding. Special role by Walter Nandalike and Dian Dsouza is one of the highlights of the drama. Court scene is one of the highlighted part of the drama. Comedy scenes are too good with LAVINA and GODWIN. worth watching number of times.
