Update

Udupi, Jan 12: Congress member and RTI activist Vasudeva Adiga, who was allegedly kidnapped on the night of January 7, has been found dead.

Adiga's body was found at Kadur in Chikmagalur district on Saturday January 12.

Sources said that the body was found in Madagada pond, with a heavy stone weighing nearly 20 kg tied to the leg. It is learnt that the body was in a decomposed state and was thought to be of an unknown person. Preparations were even made to bury the body, but at the nick of time, a bill in the name of Adiga was found in his pocket, which established the identity.

Marks on the neck indicated that Adiga had been strangled to death with wires after which his body was disposed off in the water. It is suspected that it may be the work of professional killers. Sources said that police have already found some clues to the murder.

Post-mortem was done in Chikmagalur, followed by a second post-mortem in Shimoga. The body will be brought to Adiga's native Vandar on Sunday January 13 for the final rites at 8 am.

Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Jayaprakash Hegde visited the spot.

It may be recalled that Adiga was kidnapped on January 7 night while he was on his way back home to Vandar from Kota in his bike. A black Scorpio car had waylaid his bike near Goliangadi and the miscreants forced him inside their car.

The police suspected that it was a case of kidnapping primarily because of a land dispute that was going on between Adiga and four others. Several people were taken for questioning, and two days later, his mobile phone was found near the spot where he was kidnapped.

An active member of the Congress, he had contested in the Billadi gram panchayat elections and faced defeat. Thereafter, he engaged himself in social service activities and was in the forefront when it came to exposing illegal activities.

As an RTI activist, he had repeatedly exposed wrongdoings in various quarters. It is said that he was in the process of collecting valuable information about suspicious dealings in government offices in Udupi and Brahmavar, misappropriation of crores of rupees in a temple under the district endowment department, illegal activities of a few local leaders, and various other illegalities. For this reason, a few who feared being exposed may have done him in, sources said.

He is survived by his mother, four sisters and a younger brother who is in Bangalore.

Dear Valerian please try to correct yourselves. Late Mr. Satish Shetty was murdered in 13th January, 2010 (exactly three years back) for exposing Land Scam of Mumbai Pune Expressway but not for IRB irregularities. And everybody knows which Government we have in Maharashtra for last 8 Years!!! And who is behind land grabbing scam??

Dear Sachidanand, Facts about RTI activists:
A year before RTI activist Satish Shetty was killed,(January 2010) Shetty had lodged a complaint of land grab by IRB chairman Virendra Mhaiskar. The IRB group is said to have extended huge unsecured loans to Purti Sugar and Power Limited run by Gadkari. The company had bagged contracts from the Maharashtra government when Gadkari was public works department minister in the state.
Another eminent RTI Activist TJ Abraham had filed complaints with Lokayukta police on BS Yeddyurappa, SM Krishna and HD Devegowda for their alleged involvement in illegal land allotment to NICE.
The same can be checked with google.com.

@Sachidanand Shetty, nobody is aware of what could be the exact reasons behind this particular tragedy till the investigation is complete, you are grossly mistaken, a lot of RTI activists have been eliminated in the recent past by the various mafias operating with impunity with patronage from those in high power and influence! Have we forgotten of an IAS officer who was opposing the stone crushing mafia was mercilessly driven over by a loaded tractor in broad daylight! Even though the RTI Act itself is a very important instrument in the hands of the commoners, using it to expose the high and mighty is definitely fraught with extreme consequences! As the stakes are very very high with involvement of powerful people in most of the corruptions/scams/manipulations, they can go to any extent to eliminate evidence before it becomes public!! Since it is carried out by others it is very difficult to gather evidence and get to the real perpetrators! There should be some protection given to RTI activists who constantly live in danger to their lives!

Dear Jossey, I think you know the answer now, why Nagesh, Dinesh, Rakesh or Rajesh kept quite because they know very well that “If human bites mad dog or mad dog bites human” injection should be given to human only. People know very well that BJP or VHP or RSS will never resort to these kinds of cruel actions. Rest all is the history and truth will prevail at the end and then you may have to say “You are right Dear Nagesh, Dinesh, Rakesh or Rajesh”

Some people innocently said that 1,000 crores of Land Scam in Udupi!!!! Means 100 to 200 Acres of Land dealing in Udupi Area??? Karnataka Government does not have that much land in their ownership in Udupi area. Either they have to cut and level Western Ghats or landfill in Arabian Ocean to get 100 to 200 Acres of Land. Private Party, Mutt or few Churches do have ownership of few Acres of Land in Udupi region. But people became so smart that not even inch of land can be acquired from them even for public utility purposes, else we could have completed the National Highway Construction from Mangalore to Kundapur long ago. Sure there must be other reason for his kidnapping and murdering, because person who involved in corruption never scared from Indian Judicial System then why they have to bother about RTI Activists. There were only few Activists killed so far in India, i.e. one Shetty from Pune for exposing NCP and Congress corruption in Land dealing and few from UP or Delhi. None others are targeted so far!!!

And this RTI activist paid the ultimate price. May his soul rest in peace, though only after it haunts and curses the perpetrators families for atleast 2 generations. This is my wish.

This is Bharathiya Al-Qaida, started in Karnataka also. Looks like political members are included in this Al-Qaida network. This may continue if something goes against them. If police don't find and punish them this will surely continue, spread across Karnataka and a common factor like Pakistan. So, need to take strict action against this. Jesus was crucified for not reason but yet Bible says he took our deceases and bore out iniquities and shed his blood for our sins and made the way to heaven through his death.

There is no Proper communication link between minister and public, if we found link in some cases false assurance given by minister.until now no substantive work is done at practical level. Even no judiciary system written there to take the action against those false statement!
Whenever there was public demand for action, the Ministers made public statements, even to the parliament, stating that efforts are being made. This was done merely to appease the public discontent! If just the efforts being made! when the hell we will get the result!
Most of the time, the ruling these days is done only by way of the state media and giving public statements. No substantive work is done at a practical level. At the heart of the system, there is no logically consistent system is there, Even they never try to enhance the Public interest and even respect to the Public Demand and Word!utter fabrication done by these rulers!
At the heart of the system I can say utter failure is there!Rogers just busy with hunting the benefits ,and Public source! killing the sincere leader as well! even their thinking way and so far response clearly indicating and stating that
who is this public to ask the questionnaires ?
So sad we lost one more sincere leader May his soul rest in peace!

This is sad stage of Indian democracy.

For the corrupt, by the corrupt and of the corrupt.

Any one wishing for India to come up, it is just day dreaming.

Even if any one likes to bring up India in non corrupt methods, he would be done with, within no time.
Therefore, no one should think that India will come up, let alone next 100 years, not even 1000 years.

Because it is in our culture to hoard and save for our children, grand children and next 100 generations, by hook or crook.

This is what I am saying : anyone trying to expose BJP and their corrupt activities will meet with such fate.
Police, although had a clue as to the vehicle in which he was kidnapped, have not and will not find the culprits, as they fear transfer to a very low level police station somewhere in the wilds.
Police are shit scared of all these ministers\politicians.
    All of them together will not tolerate a gentleman\straighforward\honest person (same like HSS}
May be another minister was afraid too as some temple funds misappropriation is also involved!!!!
