Yeddyurappa Stares at Dead End as Deadlines Fizzle out

Yeddyurappa Stares at Dead End as Deadlines Fizzle out

Bangalore, Jan 13 (DHNS): Another deadline set by KJP leader B S Yeddyurappa to topple the State government is taking on the impression of being a farce.

His professed loyalists in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who have kept him on tenterhooks, with promises of joining  the KJP, are now said to have forced him to abandon the Sankranti deadline to bring down the government.

Yeddyurappa had vowed to bring down the government on January 4, charging the Jagadish Shettar government with depriving the poor of benefits, promised under various social welfare programmes rolled out during his tenure as chief minister.

But he abruptly deferred the deadline to Sankranti festival on January 14.

Many Cabinet ministers and legislators loyal to the KJP leader are said to have recently told him that they need more time as they are unprepared to stick to his latest deadline.

Sources said that they have also expressed a claim to want to get as much benefits from the government as possible ahead of the elections, which are likely to be held before the end of May.

Sources said Shettar has lured Yeddyurappa loyalists by promising special development grants to their constituencies, which will be very crucial for them in the next polls.

The chief minister can also announce attractive projects in the 2013-14 budget, likely to be presented next month. Consequently, many legislators have been dragging their feet on joining hands with Yeddyurappa, to topple the government.

False friends

The fact that many of loyalists are now choosing to backtrack on their promises to join the KJP, has made Yeddyurappa jittery.

Except for Shobha Karandlaje, none of the ministers who claim to be Yeddyurappa loyalists, has so far given even the slightest hint of joining the KJP. On the contrary, many of them have, off the record, expressed their strong inclination to remain in the BJP or join another party.

The KJP leaders feel that ministers like V Somanna, Umesh Katti, Raju Gouda, Murugesh Nirani, Basavaraj Bommai, Renukacharya and C M Udasi and other loyalists, who were initially enthustaistic about the party, have now quietly distanced themselves from Yeddyurappa.

Actually, the KJP leader’s strength has dwindled from about 60 to 21 legislators (including ministers) — all in the span of about six months. It is said that the number will come down further.

This is because a majority of his supporters are said to be gradually realising the harsh reality and the high risk they face by joining a regional party that has no base.

For many, caste combinations in their respective constituencies do not favour them if they join Yeddyurappa’s party: The KJP is widely believed to have some influence over Lingayat voters in north Karnataka. Yeddyurappa is the only appealing factor and not the KJP as such.

Above all, the ruling BJP appears to be playing the cards right as far as Yeddyurappa is concerned.
Its recent decision to project Shettar as the chief ministerial candidate in the next polls is aimed at stealing Yeddyurappa of his influence over the dominant Lingayat community.

It is one of the strong factors which has left many Lingayat BJP legislators reconsidering their decision to join the KJP, sources said.

I think people of karnataka had a lot of expectations from Mr. Yeddyurappa led BJP government when they came to power 5 years back. But what we saw for the last 5 years is the greed to cling on to power under any circumstance. Subsequently, when Mr. Sadananda Gowda was made the CM, he delivered excellent administration in his tenure. He should have been allowed to continue. Even such a gem of a person was removed. Instead of doing all this jugglery, BJP would have a better reputation if they had refused to budge to Yeddyurappa's demand and given up their government when Mr. Sadananada Gowda was asked to step down. If they (BJP national level leadership) had stood firmly behind Mr. Gowda, they would have had a better chance.

Dinesh Poojari, last 2-3 months are very crucial for ruling party law makers to take maximum development package and also 'self development' to fight forthcoming election. There were 50 MLAs and Ministers who sent feelers to join CONGRESS PARTY but 20 were cleared but subject to endorsement from respective constituencies. Some of Those partied with Yeddy might ditch KJP but they will not remain in BJP for the sole reason of 'SURVIVAL IN POLITICS'Another 10 years BJP will not come to power in Karnataka because there are more options under the circumstances.People want peaceful atmosphere, law and order and development(basic amenities.)Deadline or Headline but KArnataka is already under ELECTION MOOD and anytime from now election CODE OF CONDUCT will be introduced by EC.Meantime, political parties are in a process of tactical adjustment and re-adjustment. JDS will be king maker for BJP and I must concede that KJP will be Kingmaker for CONGRESS."6o days left, kitna loot sakthe tho loot lo"if EC will not interfere to election earlier than anticipated.

Mr. Jeevan, I appreciate your feelings for people of Kashmir. I heartily sympathise the people who suffer in Kashmir. But, by hurting people of Mangalore are their sufferings are reduced ? If our leaders struggle to unite Indians as they struggle to divide, our India will be super power and Heaven on Earth. Why was our worship places desecrated ? Why were Nuns & aged people were attacked by police and goondas ? Why were the goondas were not arrested, rather innocent minority people were arrested and booked under irrelevant cases against them ? Just put yourself in our place and feel how you would react if it happen to your worship places and to your religious leaders. The excuse given was conversion. Why no proof was given of forcible conversion ? Was it not to fool majority to win their votes ? Let us be very frank & think over it & decide whether we should support leaders who harm innocent Indians whether in Kashmir or in Kanyakumari. Even we support them, God has His own way and own time to crush such leaders.

This is how it shows without the support of any National Party or strong Regional Party any powerful person can be dragged in to corner. This is what happened to Yeddy too in Karnataka. People like C K Karunakaran, N D Tiwari, P A Sangma corned like anything when they quit their respective Political Party. Here in Karnataka Politics, Yeddy played his trump card little early. Yeddy should have faced the next election mandate with BJP Party, try to bring more seats to form next Government Independently and then over rule the BJP Core Committee Members to make him CM again. We would have still supported Yeddy had he not toppled SVD from CM Post.

    Dinesh Poojary,

Please be mature enough to know that during yeddyruppa's tenure nothing has been developed except blame game. Last 5 years 3 CM has been replaced. Yeddyruppa will never accept others to be developed except himself. he has looted karnataka since 5 years. He knew that he will never get CM post if he stays in BJP so floated KJP with the hope of becoming CM. It does not matter for me whether BJP or Congress voted back to power but we need develop our Karnataka and make it role model. Once we were recognized as IT Hub but now we are known for bad reason.

    Jai Ho Karnataka.

As I repeatedly commented, he has to wipe the tears of innocent nuns and old people & fall on knees and pray for pardon from God for doing the injustice to minority community when he was in power. He never thought of God, nor people, nor for our State, but, was like a wild bull when in power. There was no reason for him to topple DVS whose rule was spotless. One day he will be like "Dhobi Ka Kutha". Koti Koti pranaama peoples voice has damaged as well.
