Daijiworld Media Network - Kasagod

Kasargod, Jan 15: Seven persons have been arrested in connection with the robbery of 45 sovereigns of gold and Rs 25,000 in cash at a house here. The robbers had tied the family before looting them.

The arrested are Abdul Ghafoor (52) of Bunder, Mangalore, Mohammed Haris (34) of Kasargod, Abdul Aziz (44) of Sampya Aryapu, Mohammed Ashraf (36) of Mangalpady, Narasimha Pai alias Murthy (50) of Kumble, Abubakker Siddique (22) of Farangipet and his relative Abubakker Siddique (29).

The accused have admitted their guilt, said SP S Surendran while speaking to reporters here.

The seven had robbed the house of K Rajesh Shenoy near Kumble telephone exchange on December 22, 2012. They had entered the house through the kitchen door, and used chloroform to make the family members unconscious. They then tied the family, gagged them with plaster and looted 45 sovereigns of gold and Rs 25,000 in cash. They decamped with 12 gold bangles, five chains and three rings.

SP Surendran said that more arrests are likely in the coming days.

He further said that a criminal gang from Mangalore was behind the robbery. Altogether nine persons were involved in the robbery. The robbers were told that Rs 5 crore was kept at the house of real estate businessman and owner of a transport company Rajesh Shenoy. They planned the robbery for about two months and on December 22, when there was power cut, the plan was put into action. However, they did not find the money and instead took away the gold.

On interrogation, the accused said that they had not yet shared the booty with the Mangalore-based gang. The gang will be arrested soon with the help of Mangalore police, the SP said.

These guys eat mutton, buryani and loot others. We eat vegetables and work in the farm, no strength at all, but we are happy. We cannot eat & bear police beatings. When we think of the police, chull chull urine is coming out ! We have to be very careful and learn some lessons from these robbers. Never make friendship with unknown, unless you know them. Our Mangalore people are very true and simple people. Many are taking advantage of us. So be careful always. God bless you all.
