Dubai, Jan 15: The 8th Global Convention of National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) Alumni Association will be held at Atlantis The Palm, Dubai on Friday January 25.

The day-long event comprises networking and technical presentations by industry experts, felicitation of distinguished alumni of USA, Middle East and India and entertainment program by alumni members and their families.

Minister for petroleum and natural gas and well-known Kannada poet Dr M Veerappa Moily will be the chief guest.

The theme of first Global Convention of NITK Alumni outside India is 'Connect Collaborate and Contribute.

Seventeen years back during the year 1995, it was just a small informal get together of KREC friends at Garden City of India. The discussions initiated during the informal get together paved the way to formation of an Alumni Association, subsequently the idea of the “Global Convention" was born and first Global Meet was held on December 26 and 27, 1998 at the KREC Silver Jubilee Auditorium (KREC Campus, Sreenivasanagar, Suratkal).

Initially NITK Global Conventions were held at NITK Campus Srinivasanagar, Suratkal once in every 3 years. The 6th Global Convention was held at Belgaum and 7th NITK Global Convention was held at Bangalore on December 30, 2011.



Program Details of 8th NITK Alumni Association Global Convention

- Networking and Business Presentations from 9 am to 1 pm.

- Networking and Business Presentations 9 am to 1 pm comprising Technical Presentations by Industry experts on available business opportunities at United Arab Emirates Free trade zones.

A formal convention from 2:30 pm till 6 pm will follow, which will include the launching of “QUEST Global Young Entrepreneur Award, presentation of distinguished alumni awards, and a humorous talk on 'Stand up, Speak up & Shut up' by T Chendil Kumar.

The formal convention will be followed by an entertainment program by alumni members and their spouse and children.

M K Lokesh, Ambassador of India to the UAE, Prof Swapan Bhattacharya, director, NITK Suratkal and prominent local government representatives and industrialists/entrepreneurs will be the guests.


The following persons will be presented Distinguished Alumni Awards during the forthcoming 8th Global Convention:

- Dr Srivatsa Sheshadri, MBA director, University of Nebraska Kearney

- Rahm Shastry,  chief executive officer, president and director, Nascentric Inc

- Aravind Malgeri, Quest India

- B Narayan, Group president, Reliance Industries Ltd.

- Neeraj Gupta, GKB Hitech Lenses

- P P Upadhya, managing director, Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals, Mangalore

- Ganesh G S -Posthumous (to be presented to Jayashree Ganesh)

    I miss all my Alumni. I spent few of my best years in Dubai. It is unfortunate that I will not be part of Global Convention in Dubai. All the best to the meet.
