Pakistani Supreme Court Orders PM's Arrest

Islamabad, Jan 15 (IANS): Pakistan Supreme Court Tuesday directed authorities to arrest Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf during hearing of a rental power case, Dawn News reported.

Earlier Tuesday, the apex court said Pakistan's general elections, due this year, will be held on time, and the Election Commission should be ready for it.

Hearing a case related to reforms in the election process, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said the elections cannot be delayed, Geo News reported.

Chief Justice Chaudhry remarked that the elections would be held on time no matter what. No compromise would be acceptable, he added.

Ismail Bhai..I don't think Pak Supreme Court's judgement has any influence on politicians across Asia. This is very common in Pakistan. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had tough time with Supreme Court, Mr.Yusuf Gilani also could not escape. Now present PM Raja Ashraf. He may go or stay..Pak Politicians are worse than Indian politicians in corruption. In India ,everythng comes out because of media..But it is not possible in Pak.Anyway, ultimate power is in the hands of ISI & army and not with Pak PM or President or Supreme court. That is the difference between Pak & India..That is why we survive.

Its not surprising as the Previous PM was forced to resign on similar grounds earlier. It will be the same in India too as Judiciary can force the excecutive and vice versa Impeachment of Chief justice of Sri Lanka is other significant news in the region. Media is enjoying the khazana at present

Strange. That means Now Pakistan judiciary really having teeth and claws.
Some years back Israeli Public prosecutors grilled president Moshe Katsav for molestation charges. Even US Income Tax authorities summons & questioned President Ronald Reagon. Is it possible in India.....????? Suppose if its happen in India then there is NO quorum in Parliament.

For healthy democracy – Judiciary should be independent otherwise it will lead to dictatorship ( now a days that happening in Sri Lanka )
