Mangalore: Corrupt MPs, MLAs Causing Delay in Lokayukta Appointment - Governor

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (BG)

Mangalore, Jan 16: Governor H S Bhardwaj during his visit to the city on Wednesday January 16 lashed out at the government for the undue delay in appointing Lokayukta and said that he will once urge the government to take urgent steps in this regard.

Speaking to reporters at the Circuit House here, he said, "The post of Lokayukta is still lying vacant. It is not good to delay it for so long. Most of the government MPs, MLAs, ministers and other leaders are indulging in corruption, and that is the reason they are delaying the appointment of Lokayukta," he said.

"I will urge the government to speed up the process, but will not give any deadlines" he added.

On the issue regarding the proposed Tipu Sultan University at Srirangapattana, wherein noted Kannada litterateurs like S L Byrappa and historian Chidananda Murthy had recently opposed the move of the government to name a univesity after an 'anti-Hindu' figure, the governor said that it was not good to oppose a university solely on the basis of its name.

"Tipu Sultan was a national hero and not limited to any particular caste or community. India is a secular country and there is nothing wrong in naming a university after him," he said.

"Those who are opposing the university should first know first history and then comment. It is not good for anyone within the state government to oppose as everyone will benefit from the university," he added.

"In the proposed Tipu Sultan University, 50 percent of the seats will be reserved for Muslims and other minorities, which is not bad at all," he said.

On the issue of the proposed ban on cow slaughter, when mediapersons asked if any religious leader had contacted him over the pending bill in the Assembly, he replied in the negative and said that he would not appreciate anyone contacting him on the matter.

"The issue of ban on cow slaughter has become more of a politcal issue than a religious one. Religious leaders should not intervene in political matters," he added.

On the Karnataka Land Revenue (Amendment) Bill, 2012 that had caused much furore in the state assembly last month, the governor said that the goverment is not firm on what it wants to do and has no exact policy.

Among those present were deputy commissioner N Prakash and zilla panchayat CEO Dr Vijay Prakash.

Apart from isolated historical facts, there is also this wonderful documentary "Millenium" produced by Turner himself for his CNN. It was about key historical events and facts of the second millenium in 10 episodes of 1 hour. In the 9th episode (19th century) some space is given to recognize the fights of Tippu against the British. Americans have no reason to twist history especially when it is a freedom fight agsinst the british which they know well. After the British lost the two wars, they decided they could not beat Tippu in a straight war since his army and weapons were far superior.(he had world's largest canons). They kidnapped his two kid sons and asked enormous ransom to pay. Tippu had to pay with all the money he had in his kingdom so that he could not pay his soldiers. British then used the money to bribe his soldiers during the third war.

After the long-time I have intend to give some long comments regarding ongoing issues. I want to comment as per the regularity of this given report which is firstly about, government delaying recruitment of LOKAYUKTHA which is shows the government represents are corrupted so that, they afraid recruit the LOKAYUKTHA because of the bitter experience with Mr. Santosh Kumar Hegde In this regard we can agree governor’s statement that, ‘government represents are corrupted’., but being governor he should able to force the government to recruit such legal body immediately. If he is not giving any deadline to the government about the appointment of the LOKAYUKTHA, it means he is a weak governor.
Secondly, on the issue regarding the proposed Tippu Sultan University at Srirangapattana, We all know that he is the freedom fighter and that is the true of history. The people who are those studied the history (which is not twisted as per the saffron writers like chidanada or bairappa) they well known TIPPU is one of the secular man also. The SEER of SHRIGERI MUTT is given some details about TIPPU SULTHAN, which he sent the letters and donations to shringeri temple during his period, I have remember that, all these details published in THARANGA Kannada weekly nearly two and half decades back. But there is no surprise about someone who is opposing his (TIPPU’s) name to the proposed university who are those same people also opposing our Indian constitution.
Thirdly the issue of cow slaughtering is not a religious issue and this entirely the political issue but, politicians are trying to paint the religious color on this issue because to get the benefit of emotional votes. I repeat this only the political benefit. Even The Fundamentalist and Fascist Hindu Leader of MR. Damodhar Savarkar was not believing as the cow is the devotee… for more information refer the book MAHARASHTRA SHARADA-APRIL 1935 & SAVARKAR ONDHU ABHINAVA DARSHANA PAGE No-27-37 of Translated by Mr.Chandrakanth Pokale Belagavi-2009.
Then the readers can realize this issue is raised only for the political benefit of emotional votes from the innocents. If they have the sincere effort to stop the cow slaughtering then they should shut down the leather factories in India which is their raw-material is skin of the animals including the cows. They should stop the India’s export business of meat which is also available the Indian beef in gulf market. The vise versa is that, According to the export record, India has achieved highest target in exporting beef during the BJP ruling of Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government.
Hope this explanation is enough to the daiji’s readers to understand the political motto of Sangha parivar. I am inviting any of the debate or opposing comments on this given details. But I have given the fact is with detail and evidence.

HE WAS THE FIRST PERSON TO COIN WORD "KARNATAKA"!!!!!!

Editor of Mysore Gazettes SRIKANTIAH has listed 156 temples f which TIPPU regularly paid annual grants.

    Sultan's treasure was Krishna Rao
    S.Inyangar is Minister of Home/Police/Post
Purnaih as 'MIR ASAF' very important utive post

Moolchand and Sujan Rai important agents Mughal Court and his Chief 'PESHKAR'is SUBBA RAO.

In 1791 Maratha Horsemen raided the temple SRINGERI MATH killing and wounding many, looted valuebles.Shankaracahrya petioned to Tippu Sultan in return TIPPU immediately ordered his aide to look in to the matter and helped in cashes and gifts SHANKARACHRYA MATH of SRINGERI!!and Again Tippu wrote a letter in Kannada addressed to SHANKRACHRYA OF SRINGERI as" People who have sinned against such a HOLY PLACE are sure to suffer the consequences of their misdeeds@ no distant date of this KALI AGE in accordance with versus.

In the light of these events historian BA saletare described him as defender of the HINDU DHARMA....

Why BJP ruled states are hesitating to appoint Lokayukta ? You do not have to answer as the whole world knows the answer! BJP means BRESHTA JANARA PARTY. Most of the leaders are corrupt they are busy only in filling their pockets and waive the cases of saffron brigade goons. They have accelerated the task of filling their pocket since last few months as they are limited time left to loot.

If you visit Madhur Ganapati temple near Kasaragod, there is a board (still existing) stating that that was the place where Tippu's sword fell to signalthe demolition. However after drinking the water from the temple well, his mind was changed and he left the place without distroying the temple. Consider this fact with the back ground knowledge that until 1950s, non-brahmins were not allowed inside the temple. I read this in the text books - in communist era of Kerala government and therefore not a Sangh parivar creation.
The historic fact is that massive conversions took place in Malabar region during Tippu's rule. Whether Tippu was personally responsible for that or not - no one will be able to tell.

The Shankaracharya petitioned the Mysorean ruler, Tipu Sultan for help. About 30 letters written in Kannada, which were exchanged between Tipu Sultan's court and the Sringeri Shankaracharya, were discovered in 1916 by the Director of Archaeology in Mysore. Tipu expressed his indignation and grief at the news of the raid of Maratas: "People who have sinned against such a holy place are sure to suffer the consequences of their misdeeds.

Tippu immediately ordered the Asaf (Nawab) of Bednur to supply the Shankaracharya with 200 rahatis (fanams) in cash and other gifts and articles. Tipu's interest in the Sringeri temple continued for many years, and he was still writing to the Shankaracharya in the 1790s.( discovered in 1916 by the Director of Archaeology in Mysore

    Is Tippu secular or communal?

First off. Sri Bhardwaj is no saint. As a Congress leader he too has quite a few skeletons in his cupboard. As for Tipu Sultan University, I have two suggestions - A) let it be named after a truly secular leader like Maulana Azad. As others have commented Tipu Sultan fought the British, but for his own aims and he was not a secular person as his actions in Mangalore and Malabar have shown (well documented). No one is grudging educational facilities for Muslims but let it be named after a proper role model. B) Have it in N Karnataka where development is lacking and will be useful for the people of that region of our state. Srirangapatna is in a very fertile and well watered area with rice and sugarcane crops. Let us not destroy more agricultural lands by giving hundreds of acres to this new University.

When we start reading the comments here, it’s all about H S Bhardwaj but ended up with Tipu Sultan. I think we are mixing up too many issues in one subject. No doubt Bhardwaj’s advice is not tenable but it is the routine speech of Governor of Karnataka used to give one such speech before start of Budget session. Governor’s speech is nothing but like mandatory overs in test cricket before declaration of “Draw of Test Match which means no results”. But I am equally surprised to hear about Tipu Sultan regarding anti-Hindu and anti-Christian. According to Indian History what we read in our Text Book in schools, Tipu’s father Hyder Ali started development in Shrirangapattana just because not to disturb Mysore Odeyaar Family Property and he always claimed that he was the care taker of Mysore Dynasty but not the ruler of Mysore and he continued to give donations as usual to Hindu Temples and Jain Basadees too. During 2nd & 3rd war with British, Tipu did punish some people irrespective of religion or cast and demolished few churches just because they were perpetrators and secretly supporting British rulers. Suppose when we have war with Pakistan, if our own Indians betray us and help Pakistan Soldiers, then no doubt we have cull those people before we take up Pakistan Soldiers.

He is not pardonable for the crimes he has committed. My ancestors have been held captives, tortured, raped and converted by his army. My religious places were desecrated and demolished by him. How can we glorify him? He was a fighter but a very cruel fighter who deserves to be denounced. He has committed crimes against humanity and genocide. If we have little bit of self respect, we should denounce him.

Who knows what his soldiers have done when they held ladies in their captivity? Can one imagine it in the era when there was not media coverage like what we have now. My heart bleeds for my ancestors. May the Good Lord grant their soul eternal peace.

The legend on Tipu Sultan being anti-hindu and anti-christian was created by the british (who wrote the history books). Yes,he did torture the christians and burnt the churches. It was mainly because he thought they were actively supporting the Portuguese. He was not fond of Hindus since he thought that they were siding with the british. He may not have been ideal but he was certainly not an Aurangzeb.

He wanted to rename Mangalore to Jalalabad, Mysore to Nasarabad, Dharwad to Quarshed-Sawad, Devanahalli to Yousufabad etc etc..

So we don't need university on his name. His name does not deserve such honor.

Chidanand Moorthy and S.L Byrappa are spokesperson of certain movement and representative of right wing school of thought of politics and backed by Sangh Parivars.

With regarding to Lokayukta appointment issue,Gujarath and Karnataka, both are ruled by BJP has second thoughts on the issues. However,in Gujrath, after a long wait GUV of the state unilaterally appointed Lokayukta and which was questioned by Modi,CM in the SC and subsequently turned down Modi's plea. Now Karnataka also facing same issue and as said by Guv,Ministers/MLAs and MPs are blocking the appointment of Lokayukta.Imagine, most of the BJP ministers/MLAs are involved in corruption cases as their cases are to be processed only by Lokayukta Police personnel!!Can it possible to take ministers's case by Police personnel? There is no Lokayukta and Upa Lokayukta in Karnataka after Justice Hegde retired from service.I think citing SC verdict on Gujarath Govt Versus Gujarath Guv over the Lokayaukta appointment issue, Guv of Karnataka can go ahead with the APPOINTMENT OF LOKAYUKTA FOR KARNATAKA unilaterally.
