Karnataka to Amend Law to Deny Bail to Rapists

Bangalore, Jan 16: Karnataka is contemplating bringing legal amendment to ensure that rape accused do not get bail.

This was announced by Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar in Bangalore on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister said the Government has directed the police to book the rape accused under the anti-Goonda Act and to take steps to prevent any type of atrocities against women.

Addressing a meeting of the ruling BJP’s elected women panchayat members organized by the State BJP Mahila Morcha, Shettar outlined the measures taken by the State Government to ensure the safety and security of women  and to prevent atrocities against women.

In a parallel development, State Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje, who has strongly identified herself with former chief minister and KJP leader B S Yeddyurappa, called on the chief minister and personally requested him to take drastic steps to prevent atrocities against women and ensure that investigations into all complaints was done on a priority basis.

Karandlaje, who is believed to have made up her mind to resign from the Shettar cabinet and quit the BJP to join KJP, discussed the recent incident of a young housewife being lured in Chikkaballapur by some persons, who not only raped her, but also sold her to a brothel in Delhi.

The lone woman minister in the Jagadish Shettar cabinet said the Chikkaballapur incident was yet another indication to prove that women were not safe in the State.

Karandlaje had earlier written a letter to Shettar seeking more steps for women’s safety.

She has also requested the chief minister to direct police to check trafficking of women and keep a vigil on cases of girls going missing.

Shobha said she discussed various issues concerning women’s safety with the chief minister.

Lets wait till they do that. Until then it is just rhetoric and/or saying the right thing in the midst of the right people at the right time. By the way, shettar saab ka neeyat kuch teek nahi lag raha...why is he smiling in all the photos especially looking in one particular direction in all the photos...I don't know if it's the crowd or the law he intends to amend.

We just cannot ignore this move just because of election based political movements appeared in the state.Security for the women are main area of concern now a days. While dealing with rape cases there should be genuine witnesses and proper police investigation to avoid misuse of law.Totally rapist shouldnt be allowed to escape from the clutches of law.Mr.CM do the best to safeguard our mother and sisters............

If its vote bank politics why not messurements to please men too , as they do have majority population. Every convicts deserves bail apart from being he or she is innocent. It looks that any woman can send someone to jail for atleast seven years easily , if she wants to settle score . All she has to do is book false rape allegation( FRA ). I hope this ammendment has to come from loksabha and state laws are overruled by federal courts. Even if it gets passed , a convict from state has a choice of reaching supreme court for bail. Let the justice prevail!

Smirithi Irani is shinning....Election is round the corner!!!It is natural gathering of women politician but taking women issue is just a formality. In Karnataka, atrocities against women is in ascending mode.Shobha Karndalje,Energy Minister Govt of Karnataka being a member of the Shettar Cabinet wrote OPEN LETTER to CM to take effective and immediate step to contain atrocities against women folks and citing recent kidnapping and and rapes!!!Therefore, even though it is good move(no bailable),political will power to implement the law is very important.SOME ARE HOW,LONELY FEMALE MINISTER OF GOVT OF KARNATAKA SHOBAKKA is Conspicuous in her absent!!!!!!!?????
