Dear Lydia & jaimini, i knew very well before more comments that there will be a lot of peiole disagreeing to my statements. As I said I am am NOT against the punishment by the Law, but bit concerned about he dependents of family. It is very easy to say dependents will live on their own .bla bla bla... Other day I had seen a small video clip of (drama) shivaji maharaj kingdom when he is announcing judgement for a person who is convicted as Rapist. Punishment was very hard . Besides the imprisonment for several years he also had ordered 3 things 1. fold his eyes for the period, as the eyes didn't respect modesty of a woman 2. let the public spit on his face (for sometime) so that he feels what shameful sin he had committed 4."chemical castration" for rapist 5. Last for my surprise (turned to be very matured judgement) take care of the family needs(for -his dependents). Then i thought yes the law should see the dependents also. We the educated in the society invest in so many things for financial security, Medical premiums for good health/treatment, Also on insurance so that on happening of any event insured get something and feel secured. But what about a 65 yrs old mother who lost her two children ( one dead and one in the jail) ??? you think relatives take care... that is only when god wish. a daughter has been raped for 10 years. neither daughter or mother could voice opposition. it was question of respect. did any relative listen to the grievance and promised to take care during 10 years ( period of being raped ). Simply bol vachan - amitabh bachan does not give any results . that is all dear friends... good day!

Justice should be equal. Why not minor daughter also not punished ? Incase she equally participated in act. Please note wife complained to police not daughter.I think he can approach higher court for waiver of punishment or bail. Constitution gives right and even hardcore criminals deserve it sometime.

    Shiva,

Lets say you take care of your female family members - in turn, do you rape them or don't you reserve your sexual relationship just to your wife ? A mother, sister and daughter have a specific role to play and male members are to protect them and it applies to all families. Those who break this law set a wrong example and thus are unfit to live in a common man's society. Rapists wife and daughters learn to earn their own living than depending on a man who doesn't care about their respect. Please note, raping is not an act as simple as defecating or urinating. It outrages a woman's dignified living which may lead her to suicide - just one time shedding of his load !

Please remember, like minded people support each other. Am I to understand that you too are in the habit of what this man did ?

Everybody appreciates exemplary punishment for the convicted. fine. what about his wife and children ? who will take care ? the man behind the bars will get 3 square meals without tension. In our law in india the government will take care of the family if convicted in sole bread winner of the family. Few months back younger brother killed elder brother and he was sentenced to jail. Now the old mother (widow) who will take care of care??? can anybody reply me ? excuse me here i dont mean we shouldnt punish the one who is convicted

Jessey Saldanha..I feel sorry for your knowledge about Udupi..How many rape cases of Udupi you read in newspapers ? I am upset that You want to spoil the image of such a beautiful and tourist friendly Udupi's name .Students from 58 countries studying in Medical College,Manipal. Some stayed as tenants in my house. They say " We wish to stay in this beautiful place forever, but we can't " .Just because of this one psycho father, you have branded "Udupi is worse than Delhi"
For your information, Delhi police have already registered 45 rape cases after famous Dehli Gang Rape in Bus" ..It shows that how rapists in Delhi care about Government and police and the world famous BBC news already expressed negative comments about political leaders slow and lazy work in Delhi..Please don't write what comes to your mind..Every comment carries its own weight. Now pls don't say "BBC is very ordinary news channel "

Men as we the Indian society has made are so called superior of the two genders but they have been proving it wrong every time by their shamelessness, they bloody can't control themselves where else they can prove there strength hence they definitely are superior when it comes to all the bad things like rape, ,terrorism, murder.keep it up guys as all the girls are busy trying to a reach heights in all fields, I think there will come a time when there will be house husbands and working wives then we will definitely see a beautiful India.

    Juliet,

You over-looked the figure as his age I guess. How can an eighty year-old have 16 year-old daughter ? Unless of-course its his second or third marriage. The figure mentioned in the news relates to his locality.

However, the court knowing that rapists never change (i.e. Sunil Salve), should have kept him in prison for lifetime - forget about his family - they have lived a hell with a rapist father/husband ! He has least to contribute to their well being !
