Bangalore Student Found Dead in Germany

Bangalore, Jan 19 (DHNS): A City student pursuing higher studies in Germany was found dead under mysterious circumstances there 10 days ago. His body was cremated here on Friday.

However, relatives of 25-year-old Likith Shashidhar were not convinced with the German authorities’ explanation that he had committed suicide. Suspecting foul play, they said Likith used to refer to a “network” frequently that prevented him from returning to India.

Likith, a student of MS Mechatronics at the University of Siegan in Germany, was found dead inside his hostel room. “He is said to have committed suicide, allegedly due to harassment by seniors at the university,” said the Subramanyapura police.

His father, S V Shashidhar, is a real estate agent and mother, Siddalingamma, a librarian at Jain Vidyalaya here. The family lives at Chikalsandra layout. Likith had graduated in mechanical engineering from Bangalore and was working with a private company here, before opting for higher studies in Germany.

His family had taken loans from various sources to fund his study. He left in October last year, said the police. Some members of his family told Deccan Herald that they had doubts about the cause of his death and expected more information from the German authorities. None of them were ready to buy that Likith had committed suicide. Tara, a family friend, had received a call from the German authorities who said Likith had hanged himself and there were marks on his neck. But nothing specific has emerged so far on the death, said the family.

It was suspected that Likith might have been strangled by some people. “He was in some trouble over the last few months as he had told me over the phone that he was frequently harassed, abused and  mentally disturbed by his seniors at the university,” S V Shashidhar told Deccan Herald.

“Recently, he had expressed a desire to return to India, but made up his mind to stay back as we had raised huge loans. In fact, I had asked him several times to come back.”

The family said Likith would often refer to a “network” that created trouble for him. He told Tara in December last year that he was being monitored by this “network,” which would not allow him to return to India even if he was willing. He had further said the “network” followed him everywhere. However, he had not divulged much about the network.

Social media

Tara said some of Likith’s seniors at the university had even posted nasty comments on his Facebook page, following which he closed the account for some time. The family  said Likith might have been murdered by the network.

The German authorities had conducted a post-mortem before sending the body to India. “I just signed some papers. I did not understand the content as it was in German and English. I don’t know whether there was a proper post-mortem,” S V Shashidhar said.

Siddalingamma received a call from the German Embassy on January 8, informing her that Likith had committed suicide. She did not inform her husband since he was suffering from cardiac problems. Instead, she spoke to family friend Guruprasad, who completed the formalities to bring Likith’s body to India. The body arrived at Bangalore at 11:45 pm on Thursday.

Hello everyone, I kno this person to certain extent as he was my senior at the time of graduation, he was a book worm and also very reserved, He hardly use to interact with people...!!! The reason why I am telling all this is just coz... Any person who is ready to go to abroad for higher studies should have a broad mind and should take things easily.....then n oly then he can lead a happy life out there....... Totally He was not broad minded and also he was a very very reserved person and use to complain to HOD's on other seniors even for silly things, This s how he was!!!...... I am really sorry If I have posted something wrong.
After seeing all the above comments I felt like posting a comment about his nature. so I did it.

I agree with cynthia's comments. I have seen many Indian boys misbehaving in the public places. We have read enough what happened in Australia, with North Indian students!! Please parents before sending your kids to any western countries teach them how to behave!! If they have any hatread towards West, it's better to remain in India, Westerners are very nice people, give u all the respect which u dont even get in ur own country of birth, BUT at the same time westerners are very tough too!!!

    Very sad.

Gurudath, M'lore/Mumbai had rightly said. I had worked for German Company for 2 yrs and they are pretty open. Still I deal with them, interact very personally even this day.

I agree "We have train our children to withstand all types of pressures. ". Our children are not trained how to deal with foreigners. Sorry to say this.

As per knowledge, it is those who work in Bombay for more than 3 yrs, at least knows how to take pressure.

Many of India's rich and educated send their children to study in western countries and others who can't afford follow these elite people.Only those understand the importance of western culture need to go there and not who come here and blame their culture.
Either don't send your children there or once you send them there dont blame them which will show u r weak mind.

Once again Indians are proving how poor they are financially and by heart! What's wrong in Indian education!! why parents has to send their kid to Germany for studies that too by loan. This is the trick of Indians, They come as studen visa and they never ever go back to India,, they stay somehow pathetically. Some narrow minded indians dont even smile when someone smiles at them. this is why they are harrased!! and Westerners think these people must be aliens, get it Mahan nagesh!

Sad though... Why dont any private sector open/collaborate foreign university campuses in India, which may solve these issue. If the student is weak he/she should not go out of his place and parents should not force or take huge loan.

Whatever may be the 'attractions and lures' from abroad our India is the best to live in because of the 'humanitarian' angle! As long as 'humane values' are with us , we will rule, no matter to what level the 'exterior development'
rises! Ask anybody who has lived abroad many a year and they will agree but in a 'hushed' manner!India is the best because 'humanity' still prevails in almost all parts! Some events of late however prove that even these qualities may go into 'oblivion'...but there's hope still and all should pray that this should not be the case....
